Gastric Fistula
Hello:
I need to comment on this discussion of gastric fistula and the impression that
it can’t happen with a transected stomach.
I’m a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass post-op of over 2 1/2 years and have been
documented with a fistula via an EGD procedure (going down my throat and taking
a look), an upper GI and a CAT Scan.
All show a fistula between my TRANSECTED pouch and remaining stomach!
Truly one for the books. Mother Nature wants to put things together so She
built this little “tunnel” (connection) between my pouch and remaining stomach.
Sometimes food goes out my stoma normally and other times it overflows into my
old stomach.
I have not been able to continue to lose weight for about 12 months now… I’m
still 120 pounds down to the good, but am just writing to advise that strange
things DO happen! I still have a ways to go. If it happens it will, and if
not, so be it! I exercise at the gym a minimum of 5 days a week and have made
lifestyle changes. So those are positive steps towards healthy living. At least
I think so.
And in case you’re wondering, I have not made a decision to go back in and
repair this growth. Yet.
So keep supporting each other — this group and others is the way you learn.
Have a very happy and healthy Holiday season.
