Those big calcium pills
Hi group
Please help me with the following:
I hate those big old calcium pills because they always get stuck in
my throat. (The bright side is that I had to increase my water intake
in order to wash those suckers down!) Can I instead take the contents
out of the pill and sprinkle it on something or mix it in something?
If yes, how does it taste?
Do I have to switch to liquid pain medicine now? Or can I still
absorb stuff like Tylenol pills?
What is the best chewable multi-vitamin readily available in
drugstores?
Thanks

My surgeon recommended Flintstones COmplete, chewables, two a day.
For calcium I use a powder that I mix with OJ diluted or V8.I got it
from www.vitaglo.com and it is $4.04 a bottle.
We are at about the same place! My lap RNY was 10/25/01 and I’m down
31 pounds!! Good 4 us!

I’m really bad about taking vitamins but I found that Viactiv Calcium Chews
are a good alternative to calcium pills. They’re individually wrapped
candies that are 20 calories each. They come in 3 flavors: milk chocolate,
mochaccino, or caramel. I’m not sure about the sugar content but I haven’t
had a problem there. I have no problem with Tylenol pills; they even gave
them to me in the hospital right after WLS. No clue about chewable
multi-vitamins though. I gave up on the chalky kiddie vitamins and try to
cope with the horse pills!

Viactive has calcium carbonate. I was told to take
calcium citrate by my doctor and have also read it
many times here. I am also currently taking Viactive,
only because I feel that something is better then
nothing at this point because I also have a problem
with those big calcium pills. I’m looking for a
citrate alternative! Just wanted to mention the
carbonate vs. citrate to let you know Viactive may not
be a good permanent solution.

Have you tried a calcium citrate powder that is dissolvible in orange
juice or V8? It has no taste. The only negative is that it is a bit
gritty but a lot better than swallowing horse pills.
