Ring??

Hi everyone. I was trying to post this earlier but apparently our
“moderators” decided that there was something in it that they didn’t agree
with, so therefore my actual question was ignored. It was in reply to the
statement about someone thinking that the stoma had nothing to do with
losing weight/gaining weight (which of course was not the case). So I will
try and post this again and hopefully this will go through. :
the original post said - My surgeon says that the stoma has a lot to do with
it (stretching and gaining/not losing weight) and that is why they make it
so small to begin with.:
That is what my surgeon says also. But he has been using a mesh ring
in/around(?) the stoma to prevent it from stretching ever. The tissue grows
through the mesh and becomes stronger with time. In the first 6 months to a
year it really doesn’t matter without the ring, but, he does it because of
the long term effect the stoma has on the success of the surgery. He has
been doing his own study about his patients that he has used this on and has

had a much higher success rate than most surgeons have without the ring
(long-term of course). He’s been doing it for 6 years now with the ring and
the RnY for over 20 years altogether. Does anyone out there have a surgeon
who does this or heard of it?? I have been searching the net for info on
this and cannot find anything on it. I trust my surgeon completely and he
has never lost anyone nor has he had an unsuccessful surgery but I was just
wanting to get more info on the long-term effects that have been documented
by other surgeons. Thanks for any help on this.

[Moderator’s note: The issue in moderating is NOT whether we “agree” with a post
submitted to OSSG. We routinely approve notes that we personally disagree with.
The issue, rather, is whether the submission meets the list’s posting
guidelines. If it does, it is approved regardless of whether we agree with it or
not.]

I believe the procedure Dr. Fobi does is essentially a RNY with a
    ring and transected stomach.
    Hope this helps.

The doctors at from the Northern Colorado Surgical Association place a ring
around the stoma to prevent stretching in the future. They have found that
this helps people from having a large weight regain. This is also why they
do not (at this time) do Lap surgery. They feel that the ring is an
important part of this surgeries success.
