I AM A LITTLE CONFUSED, AGAIN? I AM 11 DAYS POST OP AND ON THE GASTRIC BYPASS
SOFT DIET. I AM TRYING TO GET ALL THE PROTEIN I CAN AND I AM WONDERING IF ANY
OF YOU CAN HELP WITH REAL FOOD SUGGESTIONS INSTEAD OF CREAM SOUPS OR PROTEIN
SUPPLEMENTS. I HAVE TRIED COTTAGE CHEESE, I EAT YOGURT EVERY DAY FOR BREAKFAST
AND HAVE TRIES MAC-N-CHEESE AND PINTO BEANS. THE LIST SAYS CANNED CHICKEN AND
TUNA, CAN I HAVE A PIECE OF GRILLED FISH? THE LIST ALSO SAYS PASTA. IF I FIX
LASAGNA FOR MY FAMILY AND I PUT MEAT IN IT CAN I EAT THAT? WHAT ABOUT
SPAGHETTI, CAN I HAVE SAUCE WITH MEAT? IF YOU DON’T PUT MEAT IN THE SAUCE IS
THERE ANY PROTEIN IN IT OR IS IT JUST CARBS? I HAVE ATE BEANS AND MACARONI AND
CHEESE FOR THREE DAYS AND I REALLY WANT SOME VARIETY. HELP!!!!

How about cooking some boiled chicken? That was one of the things I
ate when I was first on soft protein foods (weeks 3 and 4). Turkey is
good, too, and eggs. Since I wasn’t eating pasta at 11 days post op
(still don’t eat pasta at almost 7 weeks post op) I made meatballs
and ate those with spaghetti sauce minus the pasta. Some people have
taken the sauce with meatballs and put it over ricotta cheese. Low
fat string cheese is a good choice too. If you like split pea soup,
that also has a lot of protein. In addition, you could try 1 protein
    shake a day.
There are sites online that will list the protein in different foods.
I found those to be very helpful.
    Good luck!

    Kelly,
One way I get more protein is, tofu. I mash it up and add it to Ricotta
cheese then I mix it with parmesan and motz cheese and 1 egg. I sometimes
layer it with egg plant or lasagna noodles, or bake it as is. My family eats
it and no one knows there is tofu in it.
A 1/2 cup of extra firm tofu adds 19g of protein to what ever you are
eating. I also mix it in with meatballs or meat loaf. I tell them that it is
cheese. Tofu has no real taste it cooks up tasting like the spices you cooked
    it in.
    Good luck,
