Reasons for Surgery

Oh Annette, I’m so sorry that you had that experience. Of course we’ve
all had it…and sometimes the stares and remarks and giggles are more
hurtful than at other times. The main thing to remember is that we are
not our bodies. Who I was at 300 pounds is essentially who I am at 190,
but with less wiggle.
I no longer *look* the way I used to and the stares and remarks are
gone. But the surgery gave me so many gifts unrelated to other people’s
perceptions of me — self-confidence, energy, the ability to swing on
the playground swings with my daughter, the ability to buy clothes in
any store I enter (except those snooty ones that specialize in size
zero!), and most of all the knowledge that inflicting pain on people who
look different than what is defined as “normal” is cruel and sometimes
downright evil.
If you’re serious about getting the surgery, I hope you’ll examine your
motives and do it more FOR you than for/against others. And, in the

meantime, remember that you are a good and worthy person and those
people who were smugly laughing have some sort of malignancy in their
souls. Good luck on your journey.

If you go through with the surgery…. it very well could be the last… or
one of the last few. :) Life is going to change for you…. the adventure
into the thinner world is about to begin. Dare to dream the dream.
I found dreaming and hoping hard to do… I had lost all hope… but this
surgery has restored my ability to dream of the future I really want. Good
luck to you….. and keep your chin up… it will get better.

Hi, first a HUG. I understand how you feel. I weigh right now 400. I know the
stares the laughs and the jokes all at my expense.
The embarrassment of having to ask for a table instead of a booth ( and looking
at me I should not have to ask )
Most of these same people who make fun of an overweight person would not make
fun of someone in a wheel chair or who couldn’t see or talk ( well some but not
    all )
I cannot walk very far right now with out major back pain, I need to ride in
one of the electric chairs, but if I did I could just hear the comments of look
at her she is too fat to walk or if se lost some weight she wouldn’t need to
ride that, so I either take a pain medicine which dulls it and makes me flush
red and really sweet or I dont go.
I am having my surgery Jan 11 2002. I am happy and scared. Happy that I get a
second chance at life ( and I swear I will not mess this one up) and scared

    because of the unknown.
