Good WLS Books

Hello:
I’ve had the pleasure to read most all of the weight loss surgery books. Wish I
would have had such a selection to choose from when I had my gastric bypass back
in April of 1999 (over 2 1/2 years ago)!
The one I keep coming back to is the one by Dr. Louis Flancbaum and Ms. Erica
Manfred. It’s called “The Doctor’s Guide to Weight Loss Surgery.” It seems to be
the only book out there co-written by a bariatric surgeon. I believe the book
has a website at www.wlsguide.com
I find myself recommending this book to many of our support group folks who are
attending group to learn if surgery is right for them and if this is something
they want to do.
I found the book to be anecdotal in places, providing quotes from post-ops…
and what I particularly found useful was the FAQ (frequently asked questions)
section and the chapter on Insurance issues. There’s a comprehensive
description of the various types of surgeries, how to choose the right one for

you, and how to select a surgeon and program. There are so many questions
anyway in this process — this book seems to touch on all the “issues” many
pre-ops (and post-ops) have.
I wish I would have had such a resource when I was investigating my surgery.
