question about gas
Hi everyone! Happy 2002! my question is this:
is eating a gassy food such as beans BAD for your pouch, or just
uncomfortable? I love bean and bacon soup, and I am struggling to up my
protein intake. I don’t so much mind the gas pains, but I want to make sure I
am not stretching or harming my little pouch! thanks everyone!

Hi Sam,
Funny you should ask about beans and gas! lol I just
made a pot of bean soup and it is a “mark your
calander” event for me. I only make bean soup once
every ten years or so. I have to say, it sure is yummy
though!
A tip my Dad taught me is to soak the beans over night
in cold water with some baking soda added. The next
morning, rinse the beans and cook as you normally do.
This helps cut down on the ummmm “gassy” effects.

I don’t see as it is harmful. You just have to watch that you don’t eat too
much which may be a lot less than you think due to the gas pains that
accompany it. It takes a whole heck of a lot to stretch the pouch. My vote
is for uncomfortable especially as a newbie. Of course you want to follow
your surgeon’s diet recommendations but I eat beans. And many on here eat
chili a lot so it can’t be that harmful.
