question about gas

Thursday, March 27th, 2003

Hi everyone! Happy 2002! my question is this:
is eating a gassy food such as beans BAD for your pouch, or just
uncomfortable? I love bean and bacon soup, and I am struggling to up my
protein intake. I don’t so much mind the gas pains, but I want to make sure I
am not stretching or harming my little pouch! thanks everyone!

7 month rambling…(kinda long)

Thursday, March 27th, 2003

Hello all,
I hope everyone is having a happy and safe holiday season.
Time is passing so fast for me. Thinking about it today, I am
officially 7 months (and 3 days) post-op. Wow, its so hard to
believe. I stopped by my PCP’s office to use his scale, well I admit
it, I wanted to see how much I weighed on the last day of the first
year of the rest of my life. I made it, yes I made the century mark,
100 #’s. In the beginning after surgery I did get on my scale way
too often, but I didn’t let it get to me, I just enjoyed watching the
numbers go down, or even durning plateaus, I enjoyed seeing the lower
number. Eventually my scale of millions of years hit the dust, and I
have been just to busy to take the time to go and replace it. I
realize that in the beginning I needed the visual verification that
the surgery did work, but now I know all I need is the feeling of my
cloths getting loose (ok ok except for the occasional hop on the

WLS Comparison Chart w/ Complications, Success, e

Thursday, March 27th, 2003

Wow…the following are just some of the comments re: the RNY on this web
site/comparison chart. I know we don’t want to start up another raging debate
on RNY vs. VBG vs. BPD/DS….but I’m trying to figure out just who this chart
refers to and how this information was collected…especially when it uses words
such as ‘frequent complications’, ‘very limited diet’, ‘unhealthiest diet’, and
’significant dietary restrictions’. Frankly, I have had no complications to
speak of, minor discomfort, could eat whatever I want but keep it under control,
eat healthier then I did pre-op…and feel that I really do not have any dietary
restrictions outside what would normally be expected from anyone (pre or
post-op) wanting to maintain a healthy weight. Considering all the posts I’ve
read here from post-ops…I just can’t see the pattern represented in this
chart.

discouraged but not anymore

Wednesday, March 26th, 2003

Denise, thanks for the message. I know you wrote it to Kelly but I needed
to hear it too. I had my surgery on Nov. 7th, and have lost 40 lbs so far.
I lost 35 the first 4 weeks and then another 5 lbs the 5th week, however,
since then nothing. I am have been reading the lists since January and knew
this could/would happen and have tried to tell myself this is normal and not
to worry. When my emotions said “Did I have surgery to just loose 40 lbs?”
my brain said “As much as I want to loose more, wasn’t the surgery worth it
just to loose the pain in my back, knees, and other places that I had
before I had the surgery and lost the weight?”
Do I want to loose more? Of course! Will I loose more? A friend who had
WLS about 4 years ago asked if I had ever heard of anyone only loosing a max
of 40 lbs after this surgery. (Initial loss, not loss and regain.) While
it may have happened, I know it is normal to loose more (then comes a
different set of struggles.) I hope to loose at least 100-150 lbs. Next
question, Have I ever heard of anyone who had this surgery loosing that much

Protein, Scale, Life after surgery

Wednesday, March 26th, 2003

Happy New Years!!
I don’t post often but I wanted to reflex back on this past year this
morning and let the world know that I feel so blessed!!
In 11 months I have lost 165 pounds, gained great health, and really like
the person I am becoming!! I have gone down from size 30/32 to a size
16/18. I have a lot of skin to deal with, but tummy control panties, long
sleeves and keeping my thighs covered really help. Hey I look great in
clothes! Now, naked it is a scary picture, but my husband still calls me
“Skinny”. You gotta love it!!! Skinny at 226 pounds!! I am 5′9″ so I can
carry it OK but I am excited to see below 200!!
As for Protein, I like the Met-rx powder and it comes in assorted flavors.
I can’t really pick a favorite as I seem to like all of them!! I mix a
package of the Berry Blast with 1 cup of OJ 1 Banana in my blender. Get that
mixed up good and I add ice to make it real thick. I then drink that for my
breakfast. It has 480 calories, 3 grams of fat, 73 carbs, and 40 grams of

Yip yip yoo!!!!
I opened my mail just before midnight last night
and got a wonderful surprise for the new year. I
AM APPROVED!!!
Thanks to everyone on this list for educating me
and sharing so willingly. This list has been my
sustenance throughout my long wait. Thanks to
Anthem for the quick (three weeks after finally
receiving surgeons request) and kind approval
(mailed out 12-26….who’d have thought they’d be
working?) Thanks to God for opening a window for
me when every door I found was shut.
Life is good.

Large-sized clothing

Tuesday, March 25th, 2003

Linda,
I can definetly relate to plus-size clothing having extra long sleeves.
While I wear a 3-4X( as I pre-op), I am only 5′3″. So, on most of my shirts I
have to roll the sleeves up majorly! By the way…Happy New Year Everyone!
May 2002 bring a beautiful year to all! Oh…one more thing, My pre-op
surgical consult is this Friday, and I can’t wait!
Take care all, Heather
