Im not saying ALL craving is pathology nor am I saying its not OK to enjoy
salty or spicy or tasty, Nor am I saying anything about the reality that many
RNY post ops need to be more choosy with what we eat cause our pouches remain
smaller, and we do have to get more bang for our buck so to speak.
Im simply stating a fact. Often when we SUDDENLY crave salty foods, we are
sometimes NOT drinking enough sodium free decaffeinated liquids, end of
statement. That is true for me. Sure I still love olives, and lox on 1/2 a
bagel, or some other high salt foods, or hot and spicy foods too, in small
quantities, but if I have an urge for Cape Cod Cheddar Cheese popcorn … or
something drenched in lots of soy sauce … chances are my water consumption
is WAY down.
So … if I suddenly crave LOTS of salty foods I need to look at my water
consumption. And if you do that too … do yourself a favor and check your

liquid intake, it should be about 2 gallons a day. I know I sometimes fall
real short.
I dont know where this thread started, so thanks for catching me up, I might
have taken some of your post out of context Sue.
I agree with what your DR says about so much of the eating experience being
gone. Quantity still for some of us lucky older ones, though I have learned
how to eat around my pouch if I really want to, carb monitoring for us
dumpers. And the different ways we chose to replace those losses are
interesting.
I tend towards comfort foods, more than spicy or salty foods, childhood
favorites, homemade spaghetti and meatballs, ice-cream, melted cheese on an
English muffin type stuff, good mac and cheese, pizza, Id go Chinese when I
go spicy and salty.
By the way Sue, your success is awesome, congratulations!
