Distorted Body Image
Hi Friends!
I’m back finally. Survived Thyroid Surgery Christmas Eve and thank the good
Lord it was benign.
I had my 3 month check up 1/18/02. I’ve lost 50% of my excess weight and all
the lab work checked out just perfect. Couldn’t ask for anything better than
that. All along, I’ve known I was losing weight, could see a bit in my face,
some of my clothes had more room in them you all know the story.
Last Oct. I wore a 28 into the hospital. Since then, I hadn’t bought any
clothes. I told my husband I was going to wait until things started falling off
of me. Unfortunately, nothing has fallen off yet… but my head knew that my
clothes were getting a tad bit big. You know those 24’s on up.
Well, thank heavens my father is retiring from his job as a police chief. My
husband and I were invited to suprise him at the banquet. So typical woman
here… you know honey, I have nothing that fits (REALLY!!!) I just had to go
shopping today.
I walked into the store wearing a baggy size 22W, not really knowing if it was
baggy because I had really lost weight, previously stretched it out, and no
earthly clue what size I might be. Truthfully, I was guessing maybe a 22 or if
I got really lucky a 20.
Boy was I wrong!!! (picture me doing happy dance here)
I am down to a 16-18W in almost everything. Some items are even
14W’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wedding dress 16 years ago was a size 16… there is hope.
I guess my whole point of this is even if it doesn’t “seem” like you are losing
body size, you really are. I looked at myself in the mirror and told myself how
fantastic I looked- even in the 3 way mirror. I think it is harder for us to
see ourselves because we look at clothes that still fit (I use that term
loosely) and see just a bit of extra room, not reality. I absolutely love my
new body that is still a work in progress. I know it will only get better and
better. So now, I’m off to keep up the old self esteem with a new hairstyle and
maybe even treat myself to a manicure… (watch out honey I’ve got the credit
card).

Michelle, That’s great news!
My surgery was also in October on the 25th and I’ve lost half of what
I want to lose (51 pounds). It’s funny how I am still wearing a
jumper that is size 1X and skirts that are 18W. They fit around the
waist but the rest of the skirt is saggy! I bought a new winter coat
in November, a size 16, that was tight when I bought it and now it
looks like 2 of me could fit into it!
It never ceases to amaze me. Maybe I’ll be into a size 12 someday.
Just maybe!!
