drinking with meals???
There are two main reasons for not drinking with meals.
1) Drinking with food washes the food out of your pouch and you get hungry
sooner and eat more in the long run.
2) Drinking with food washes the food out of your pouch and you don’t
absorb all the nutrients you need to remain healthy and strong.
What I have learned through research and watching long-term success stories
is the longer out you are, the longer you should wait to drink after eating.
By a year, the usual recommendation is waiting an hour before drinking (the
further out we go, the more help we need to stay full). By 2 years, it is
around an hour and a half to two hours of waiting. Mind you, the further
out you go, the more you can drink quicker… I easily get my 64 ounces of
liquid in and also do not drink 30 minutes before nor drink for about an
hour after eating… and I usually drink around 80 ounces a day.
I hope this helps!

Virginia,
It’s because the liquid will mix with the food in your pouch and push it
through faster…so you’ll feel full for a shorter period of time and eat
more. I don’t drink except for a sip or two while I’m eating. My hubby
drinks a lot with his meals though and my surgeon tells him not to be
concerned. Of course, he’s already down to 215# and he’s only 8 1/2 months
out of surgery. His goal is 200# so maybe he doesn’t have to be as
concerned, but I’m going to stick right to the program. Good luck to you!

Dear friends,
I’m three months out and doing pretty well…except for this whole drinking
with meals issue. I’ve managed to limit my drinking to a sip or two. In
fact, I can’t really drink easily with meals because it hurts. The water
seems to sit on top of the food like a lump. But I can’t seem to go without
completely either. It’s uncomfortable and makes me feel like I’m in danger
of choking. Plus, I have a very hard time drinking water (still) and feel
dehydrated much of the time. I never thought this would be such a problem.
And I actually hoped drinking with meals would be less of an issue the
farther out I got, not more of one!
