Pregnancy Update
A couple of things… while I understand trying not to lose too much weight
during the pregnancy, you are still growing a baby and need to eat things
that foster that healthy growth. French fries are probably not the best
choice… perhaps a potatoe with cheese instead?
Also, with your weight as it is, even without surgery, most of us in the
birth arena would not be at all concerned about your not gaining weight and
even losing weight. It is entirely normal to lose weight during pregnancy
post-op. I know much more about RNY pregnancies than DS pregnancies, but
because of the malabsorption, yes, eat more, but don’t eat crap just for the
calories! It isn’t the weight gain that is so important… it is the
*quality* of the weight gain (or at least food intake during the no weight
gain/weight loss period).
There is a wonderful study you might be interested to read on Alvarado’s
website (www.gastricbypass.com). Go to REFERENCES on the left side and the
study is 4th on the list. This is the ONLY study so far that has been done
regarding pregnancy and post-ops. Leslie Jester is my nurse at Alvarado
(and is also Carnie Wilson’s nurse) and has had two pregnancies post-RNY.
She is currently working on several other research studies regarding WLS and
pregnancy and breastfeeding. I am hoping to join her research because I, as
a midwife who is post-op herself, have a very specific interest in this
topic.
Have you considered joining the OSSG-Pregnancy list? There are several DS
posties there and I know they could be a great encouragement for you… and
a wonderful source of information.
Much good luck and congratulations!
