Scale to weigh on
Hi Dede,
I had wls on July 26, 2002. I weighed 501 at the time of my surgery. I just
wanted to let you know that I had the same problem - in finding a scale to
weigh on. Of course, my doctors office had the digital ones that go up past
500 lbs, I’m just not sure to what. I worried about being able to weigh
myself, and the first 3 months were hard. I went for a check-up at 3 weeks
and weighed then. Later, at about 1 and a half months out - I found out that
I could weigh at our hospital on the cardiac floor. They had scales that
were digital and went up pretty high. Well, I did go weigh, but I was
disappointed - I think I had lost about 47 pounds at the time, and I felt
like I should have lost more. I didn’t weigh again until I went for my 3
month check-up, and at that time it was 77 lbs.
I’m now a little over 6 months out and my check-up is tomorrow. I’m not sure
how much I’ve lost but I’m guess around 110 or 120. I’m anxious to go and
find out.
One thing I’ve learned through all this is that its not so important to be
able to weigh every other day or every week. In fact, I think it would have
discouraged me. My nurse said that overall, you are going to hit plateaus
and if you don’t weigh, you don’t really know that. So, maybe that’s been
good for me.
I know this may not be the answer for you - I just wanted to let you know my
experience with it. It would probably be possible to check out your local
hospital and see if they have scales that go up to your weight. I just
always found it embarassing to think about going to a post office or
somewhere like that to weigh.
Anyway, if you have any questions, please let me know. I’d like to hear from
you and where you are in your journey.
Take care,
Cherie
