Low-carb diet
Hi all,
It’s the pest again with another question. I wasn’t given any kind of
diet to follow by my surgeon, so I have pretty much been doing trial
and error. I would like to know has anyone done the Adkins low-carb?
Is this safe for us RYN patients or should we stay with Low-fat?
Please help as to what we are supposed to eat! I have gathered from
this group that protein is as biggie, but what else? I am really
needing advise and would appreciate input from you who have had a
Dr.’s guidance. My surgeon cut and then left me on my own.
Thanks for your in-put,
Cindy

Atkins is extremely High Fat. You might do a modified version of Atkins.
Choosing leaner cuts of meat, using Margarine instead of butter, skim milk
instead of Cream. Atkins helped me lose about 45 lbs pre-surg. BUT as soon
as I went off it, I gained it so fast, my Cholesterol was through the roof
and Blood pressure was sky high.
Good Luck!!!!

Cindy,
That’s just not right to be left on your own like
that…In general we were told that higher in protien
is good, some carbs is not bad, at least 64 oz. of
water is a biggie and no grazing! How far out are
you? Vitamins and minerals are a must…calcium
too!…I can feel it in my legs at night if my calcium
and potassium are low…so a low suger yoplait and a
banana are my bed time snacks or my fourth meal of the
day.

Hi Cindy–
My surgeon specifically told me NOT to do an Atkins type diet. He did say that
it’s important to eat protein first, low starch veggies second, and if you have
any room left, starch.
For a great source of info, go to www.sabariatric.com (if that doesn’t work, try
sabariatrics) and look at the links to the post-op diet. The info their matches
well with my surgeon’s recommendations and is very detailed.
Hope this helps.
