FEAR: Losing very fast

I knew that the first month you lose a lot but I was not a super mo
and thought I’d not experience it. Lost 29 pounds in one month and
find it very frightening. To compound it all my husband (of 24 years
and very best friend) died suddenly 16 days after the operation so
I’m totally lost emotionally. I’m forcing myself to eat and the
doctor asures me it will slow down but the sky fell in on me and I
keep looking for the next thing.
If those of you out there who felt this fear of losing too fast could
respond I sure would appreciate it.

    Cat,
29 pounds is not terribly fast for someone having WLS. I am not sure if you
are able to attend the WLS support groups Alvarado offers, but they are both
incredibly helpful. (Trying to be gentle…) I am not quite sure what you
did expect after having an RNY, but losing weight is supposed to happen.
Every body loses differently… some months are faster than others and some
months there are even total standstills. You might be writing in 2 months
begging for help with a plateau! I was not a lightweight and lost 52 pounds
the first month but have had a pretty steady 10 pound loss from month 2 to
the present… rather delightful, actually. My honest advice is to embrace
your (weight) losses… your body changes… your increasing health and
physical well-being… because the loss isn’t always as steady or grand.
(Armchair non-Therapist speaking now:) Now THIS is a deep and tragic issue,
Cat. Perhaps the intense changes from sharing your life with your spouse
and once having a life with food and feeling safe under all the flesh…

perhaps so much change at one time is weighing heavy on your heart and
psyche (no pun intended). I *highly* suggest therapy/speaking with a
    religious leader/journaling/etc.
I am so sorry for your loss, Cat… know that you are thought of gently
    during this very difficult time.
    Write anytime.

I know my life trama combined with the WLS is tramatic to me and have
sought counseling. I’d go insane if I didn’t. Thanks for the

    Hi there:
I know what you mean about losing weight so fast. It is disturbing. It also
wreaks havoc on your already not so pretty body. I have lost 144 pounds in
4.5 months. When I look at myself nekkid….it scares me. I started at a 52
DD…Now I lay on my back and look like a boy. Its depressing…I know I did
this to lose the weight, but where I was so sick it just FELL off me. I
worry that I will not be able to stop losing the weight…then What?
