pcp giving me a hard time about ds

Saturday, August 23rd, 2003

My pcp does not think this surgery will be the answer. Altough if im
not hungry I dont eat…..so I figured this is the way to go. Well
she was very impatient with me and telling me she has tons of
patients with complecations from rny who wish they never had the
surgery i explained this is a bit different surgery she is insisting
you still have to break bad eating habits anyway so why have surgery.
Now she has prescribed meridia for me ….. I have an appointment to
see dr hess march 14 i am so confused any input would be grately
appreciated.

NOT TO LONG TO WAIT NOW!!!

Saturday, August 23rd, 2003

My surgery is March 12th so not to far off now. Then 16 days later
my grandson will be born yeah can hardly wait.

I fit in a chair today!!!!

Friday, August 22nd, 2003

I know at my stage this should not excite me but this is the first hurdle I
have conquered since I got back on the wagon….
I went to pay my car insurance today and that chair ALWAYS hurts….well it
didn’t today… I sat all the way back in it and didn’t even realize it till
I was driving away….WOW!!!! what a feeling.
Maybe starting over again WON’T be hard and miserable after all.

Old Friend

Friday, August 22nd, 2003

I just had the *weirdest* experience. I was at a luncheon and looked
across the table only to see someone I knew in high school over 15
years ago! He didn’t recognize me, of course, and I had changed my
name when I got married, but he did remember me. I hadn’t seen him
since his graduation. Now we weren’t particularly close or anything,
but I still found it very strange! We made a little polite
conversation and then didn’t get a chance to catch up or anything, but
I have to tell you, it made me feel like I look *so* good! Don’t know
how to explain that, really. It’s the first time since my weight loss
I’ve run into anyone I knew when I was younger (and I’ve been very
heavy my whole life, even as a child) who isn’t one of my friends now.
My stomach is still all jittery! It’s fascinating and exhilirating and
scary all at once. What a feeling!

Crohns Disease and Gastric Bypass

Friday, August 22nd, 2003

Hello everyone! I haven’t posted in a very long time. I had surgery
January 2001 and have lost 116 pounds (from BMI: 42 to 23). Greatest
decision of my life.
Anyway, I have a question. A coworker and friend was recently
approved for a RNY but after meeting with the surgeon (who might I
add has not been doing this procedure very long), he informed her she
was not a candidate for surgery because she has Crohns Disease (an
intestinal disease). I’ve suggested that she get a second opinion
from a surgeon with a more extensive history or possibly research
other options such as a VBG or ABG. Has anyone on this group had WLS
with Crohns disease? Thanks!

MGB “study”

Thursday, August 21st, 2003

released patient follow up and study regarding the MGB ( mini gastric
bypass ) surgery performed by Dr. Robert Rutledge in Durham, NC.<<
I find his spamming my mail offensive. I also find his sending out a letter
about it being PROVEN when the “study” was done, paid for, by him
billing and coding was engaged to independently assess the outcomes of
patients who underwent the Mini-Gastric Bypass<<
and there is NO data given.. is more testimonial than any real medical
REVIEW. They didn’t show weight loss/gain, number of those having to have
further surgery, etc. I guess I like my research more scientific and hard
facts than telephone interviews about satisfaction.

Albany NY Platic surgeons

Wednesday, August 20th, 2003

Hello
I am thinking about plastic surgery to have my nasty apron lopped off
and want to have my hernia repair at the same time. I live near
Albany, NY and wonder of there are any of you out there who have had
plastic surgery after your WLS, live in my area and could tell me who
your platic surgeon is or was. The surgeon who did my WLS is not
willing to work with another surgeon to do both procedures at the same
time. Many thanks.

surgeon appt tomorrow

Wednesday, August 20th, 2003

Well the day has come….I have my first appointment with the surgeon tomorrow.
I’m extremely nervous. I have a list of questions that I plan to ask him, but
I’m wondering if there is anything else I should be prepared with or bring with
me to the appointment. I just want to be totally prepared. I know I have put
this off until the last minute but I have been trying not to think about it
constantly….I guess that worked too well.
Any thoughts from those of you who have already been through this part of the
process?
Thanks,
Lori

Dr. Duncan-Atlanta VBG anyone?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2003

I saw Dr. Duncan for my consultation February 14, 2002. I got a call today
from his office. He wants to see if I am a candidate for the VBG.
Has anyone had this done? How has your weight loss been? What about your
recovery? MOST importantly has anyone had Dr. Duncan perform this type
procedure?
For all the ‘newbies’ ( from January 2000 forward) I should explain. In
October 1999 I had WLS @ Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
After the Dr cut me open, (I had OPEN RNY), he saw my liver had some ‘fatty
deposits’ on it. He decided to take a biopsy of the liver & close me up
withOUT completing the RNY.
That night I went into respiratory arrest. I ended up in ICU for several
days & was released to go home. The following week I went back to have the
staples removed where Dr. Wright talked briefly with me about the resultsof
my liver biopsy.
I was told I had cirrhosis of the liver, I do not drink alcohol & I have
