Psoriatic Arthritis and WLS

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003

Is there anyone out there that has Psoriatic Arthritis and has had
Weight Loss Surgery too? If so, were there any changes in your
arthritis? Did it get worse? Any information on PA and WLS will be
appreciated.

kidney stone

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003

Has anyone had trouble with kidney stones since wls? I had one hit me
Monday at work, but think it passed when they did the x-ray that day. I eat
mostly protein and few veggies. Could my diet have something to do with
kidney stones? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Just Put Down the Fork

Monday, September 22nd, 2003

I never had anyone say this to me, but I did say it to
myself when I first started researching. I mean, this
is an extreme option, and despite our health and our
misery so many of us don’t feel we’re “to that point”
yet. HA! But after all, I’d lost weight on diet &
exercise before. So what an eye opener it was for me
when I did ALL the right things for an entire month:
no more (and often a little less) than 1800 calories a
day, 30-60 minutes of aerobic activity every single
day, absolutely NO “cheating” or even rationalizing.
At my weight, I should have lost at *least* 5 pounds.
Instead I gained 10.
Wake up call! There really *is* a physical difference
between me and my normal-sized friends. Sure there
were behavioral differences, too, but for that entire

Question about beans post-op

Sunday, September 21st, 2003

Hi everyone. Well, Monday I will be officially one month post-op! My question is
I have heard some people say that they eat pinto beans (no cheese) from Taco
Bell. I am curious as to how beans affected you post-oppers….

The Flu and Surgery

Saturday, September 20th, 2003

Everything was set to have surgery. Last Appointment with the surgeon on Mon.
March 11. Surgery scheduled for March 18. That’s this Mon. Mon. March 11 in
the evening I started with a cough. By Tues. afternoon my whole body knew I had
come down with the flu. Fever, Chills, vomiting, aching, coughing so hard every
muscle in my whole chest felt like it was being ripped out of me. Called the
surgeon. They said go to my PCP. He sent me home with cough syrup, and
something for the nausea and told me to take tylenol. Thursday night I’m still
having fevers and chills. I’m so discouraged. Does this mean my operation will
be postponed? I still don’t know. Won’t know until Monday morning when I show
up to the hospital for the operation. Today I have doubts about the operation.
Just a few days ill and I’m thinking is it going to be awful like this for the
next few weeks? Can I stand that? Maybe I should just can the whole idea of
this operation. My whole world is caving in on me. Got a bad performance review
at work which was presented to me to sign while I am sick. Started my period
and my computer is down. Now my surgery might be postponed which throws loops in

Quality of life stories

Saturday, September 20th, 2003

I had to share this after reading about Barbara being em”bare-assed” a few
times :) Before my Mom died just over a year ago we had gone to the craft store on a
Sunday afternoon with my Aunt and walked around for at least a half hour. At
the checkout line I felt my Mom tug my long T-shirt out of my *cleft*. I spun
around and started to whisper furiously-she stopped me by saying-” I was
pulling it out, babe” I said “I KNOW-Did you have to wait until we went
through the WHOLE STORE!”
We all cracked up. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of her passing so I
really need to think of happy times with her-those last few days were the
worst of my life.
But(t) the *cleft* problem is one I just can’t wait to disappear! To not
always have to give my dress a tug or two when I stand up or get out of the
jeep.

Important warning, and good news

Saturday, September 20th, 2003

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know that it’s important to ask you’re
doctor to run a pregnancy test before surgery. Even if your sure you
couln’t possibly be pregnant. Don’t assume that they will run one
anyway. I asked my doc, after the fact and found out that he doesn’t
run a pregnancy test as part of the pre-op screening.
I’m 4 months post op, and 5 months pregnant. Of course if I had known
I was pregnant, I would have postponed my surgery, that choice was not
given to me though. This is considered a high risk pregnancy, with
all the problems and testing that go along with that.
I thought I was done having kids. I didn’t realize that I was pregnant
until 1 1/2 weeks ago when the little invader started to kick me. I
guess she (yup, it’s a girl, I already found that out) decided that we
had ignored her for long enough.
This is my 4th child, you think I would have recognized the symptoms.
