medicine absorption
Hello Group:
I am 2 years 4 months post op. I have a question about medicine absorption.
I need to know. I have to start taking time-release pain medicine or I
should say they want me to try it. My question is if the medicine is
aborsbed in the intestine will I get all the full benefit of the medicine or
not? I told the pharmacy that I have had gastric bypass and she couldn’t
answer my question. So I thought I would turn to you guys for some help or
advice. I hope someone has some info on this.
Thank you,
Marcie

Marcie,
My surgeon says time released medicine is a no no.

I take Wellbutrin SR and have since before surgery… it is a “slow
release” and I do fine on it. And I *know* I absorb all of it because
during this weight loss process, I have OD’d on it because the dosage
wasn’t lowered soon enough. Most surgeons say NO to time released
capsules/pills, but I have done fine on mine.

I am on pain medication from a recent surgery and I was told not to take the
time-release medication because it wasn’t absorbed properly. I was told this
by both my gastric bypass surgeon and the neurosurgeon doing my most recent
surgery. BTW, I had the RNY procedure.
