FRIDAY MORNING….

Good Morning…..
i have a quick question… i’m pre-op, and doing well on my pre op diet
required by my surgeon. My question is this… recently i’ve started having
severe foot cramps (not calf) in the evenings, and i’m wondering if its due
to the extremely low caloric intake and the intense cardio i’m doing? i’m on
the treadmill for a total of 45 minutes (5 days a week). The pain goes from
the side of the inside curve of my foot, underneath to the ball area, and
across that. We’ve massaged and wrapped in hot moist towels, which helps but
it seems to take a long ttime to subside. i mentioned this to the surgeon,
and he didnt seemed to think ti was an issue (he just asked if it happens
right after the treadmill, which it doesnt). Is there an extra vitamin
supplement or something i can add? i do take a “oneaday” vitamin daily
(well, most days). Perhaps thats not enough? i also do a protein shake in
the mornings.
Thanks in advance…

Don’t know if this is true in your case, but I
experienced something similar about 3 years ago when I
first started working out with a personal trainer. He
advised me to increase my potassium, which I did, and
the cramps went away. Haven’t had them since WLS
surgery a little over six months ago. Hope this
    helps.

    Ari,
I am not sure about cramps in the foot, but…I do know my internist told me
that if you get cramps in your calves it can be do to a need for potassium. Did
you just recently start with the treadmill? If you did, that can be it too.
Good luck, I hope that helps alittle.

    Hi Ari,
I also have this ‘foot’ problem. I did some research and also discussed this
with my surgeon at my six-month visit. Although it could be low potassium,
which can cause muscle cramps, the most likely culprit is gout of psuedo-gout
which is the result of uric acid. Generally, people who get this are those that
eat rich foods (lots of fat) and/or drink alcoholic beverages and I was
surprised that this could be the cause. Afterall, that’s certainly not what I’m
doing. It can also be caused by excess fat in your system from losing so
quickly, which explains the problem. Doctors orders were to drink more fluids
to flush the body fat from my system. If you aren’t taking in enough fluids,
this could be your problem. If you want to learn more, go to www.webmd.com and
    do a search on Gout.
