No Stomach????!!!!!!

Sunday, November 30th, 2003

Hello everybody,
Geesh I just Love this list! Today is my 6 month anniversary, of having Lap
RNY. I am Down 153 pounds as of Friday:)!! So Many things are different
now, Just being able to cross my legs STILL amazes me.
Here is my query; Friday I had an EGD done. This was my 14th, since
December. I have been seeing a specialist, who not only did my EGD’s but
injected my Stoma with Steroids to break up the scar tissue, and keep my
stoma open. He told me I have no stomach. None. That he looked around and
it seems that my food my simply Pass through what is supposed to be my pouch
area, into my intestines. WHAT?!?! I was still a bit drugged, but I did ask
him how that could be. He told me to talk with my Surgeon…HAS ANYONE EVER
HEARD OF SOMETHING LIKE THIS???
I guess it would explain the fact that I lost weight Sooo fast, and never
feel full. Also that my BM’s do come rather soon after eating, and that I
always have diarrhea…But is this healthy?? HELP ME GUYZ!!!

Explanation of seroma

Saturday, November 29th, 2003

Mary,
Thanks for the clarification! The WLS Surgeon called it a seroma, but the
surgeon who ended up caring for me at home said he suspected it was an
abcess. Maybe that’s why it was so much more painful than anyone else has
described a seroma.

I have gall stones…

Saturday, November 29th, 2003

Hi all,
It’s been a while since my last post, so I thought I would give you
an update! I went in today to have an ulrasound done of my gall
bladder and an upper GI series per my surgeon’s request. They found
gall stones :(. I guess its better to know ahead of time and have it
removed at the same time as my surgery! I’m still upset though. The
technician who did the ultrasound asked me if I’d ever had pain on my
right side. I have had a lot of trouble with pain in that area over
the past couple of years, but it was always very sporatic. I never
had constant pain. I always thought it was just severe gas or
something and never had my doctor check it out. I’m glad my surgeon
sent me in for testing! My upper GI went as well as could be
expected (ick). That barium liquid is just plain nasty! LOL! They
said my stomach looks good and normal. That was good to hear. I’ve
also been experiencing problems with my bladder lately. I thought I

pureed stage

Saturday, November 29th, 2003

I don’t think you’re doing bad at all. Everyone is different, the
trick to eat until you feel full. Only you know how much that is,
then STOP. For me I could eat almost a whole egg at that stage. I
found I could tolerate hellmans’ lite mayo and used that to make a
tuna salad, no celery but celery seed, garlic, salt and pepper. it
sure made it tastse better. I also find protien shakes to be my
saving grace. If I don’t feel like anything else I’ll zapp one up. My
favorite is sugar free carnation instant breakfast, chocolate, 3/4
cup of skim milk, a scoop of whey protein vanilla, a banana, some
sweetener and three ice cubes. Run it through the blender and enjoy.

4 Months Post-op update on me

Friday, November 28th, 2003

Hi, I am Robin and I live in FL I love to hear from people who give me hope that
thin is possible for me- my rny gastric by pass surgery date was 12/12/01- so 4
months ago I was 300lbs and today I am 207 - yea! 93 pounds in 4 months. I did’t
always seem to fall off and then it would. I can really relate to not wanting to
show your figure because in times past, that I lost alot of weight I also felt
it was very different being a different body image, so for me I want to be semi
thin so I do not have to question myself how I look. For now I am grateful to be
able to wear clothing and not feel different and like I stick out in a crowd and
I feel alot more comfortable and mobile love Robin

The truth about soda pop.

Friday, November 28th, 2003

I have heard again and again, don’t drink carbonated beverages post-op
….it’ll stretch your pouch! Others say this is absolutely not true. So
today in my copious free time (haha) I did a little experiment. I poured 2
oz of my fav diet de-caf soda into a zip-lock bag, pressed the air out and
zipped up the bag. I checked it in an hour, but the bag did not expand (to
any noticeable degree) even though the bubbles would have no where to go
like they would in in our stomach (burp).
How does a carbonated beverage stretch your pouch? How is it possible when
there is release valve and liquids pour through like a funnel. Is there any
engineering types out there that could provide a scientific explanation?

Oprah show and gassiness

Friday, November 28th, 2003

I don’t have gas…I don’t smell. I’ll bet most of us don’t. But now in
addition to all the other bad press about WLS, they think we smell. It’s so
irritating. Why can’t they show a success story?
Diane
Hey Diane, my husband actually admitted to me that I smell BETTER now than I did
when I weighed 336..LOL. I am down to 186. I have gas occasionally, but that
is okay, cause now I can beat him in a far contest because mine are always much
more powerful than his…LMAO But I only usually get gassy if I drink some
milk. Otherwise, not too much.
Take care,

Recurring pain

Friday, November 28th, 2003

I am almost 9 months post up (laprny) and down 110 lbs to 167. im
wearing a size 12…and even though I set my goal at 160….I am
happy right here….most people think Iam TOO THIN (is that
possible). Anyway…I have this recurring pain. It is below my rib
cage, left side of my body….right about waist level. I comes and
goes..but feels like a knife stabbing me when it hits If I hold the
area with my hands,it feels better, but lately Im feeling it more.
Any Idea what this might be…..I dont feel any lumps or anything.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

panic

Thursday, November 27th, 2003

Last night as I lie awake in bed, these very powerful feelings came over me of
panic and nervousness. I have made this decision to change my life, and I KNOW
I am ready for it. But for some reason last night I couldn’t help thinking,
what if I made the wrong decision….what if after its done I can’t handle it
and hate myself for doing it? I know its ridiculous because this is THE best
decision I could make for myself, but I still couldn’t get those feelings out of
my mind. So now I am wondering…..is it possible to have a reversal of an RNY
done? I know once I get past the actual surgery I will be very happy with my
life, but I think knowing that it “could” be reversed would help settle my
nerves a bit.
Anyone else out there feel this way??
