Opra show

Dear friends -
I was wondering if this was a re-run (seriously doubt it though) as
the one woman who was considering WLS kept mentioning gas and body odor. This
subject came up in this group not too long ago. This woman said she went to a
3-hour seminar and was “spooked” by a lot of things about the surgery, but
mostly by the gas and odor.
I’m 17 months out and do have problems with gas which I’m trying to
control with diet, determining which foods cause the gas and avoiding them.
But I was appalled at how she dwelled on that subject as being the primary
reason for avoiding the surgery. I wish there was a way to reach her and
allay her fears about this subject. I have NEVER known of anyone suffering
from any kind of “body odor” after this surgery and I hope to God I don’t
have it and nobody is telling me about it. LOL
As for the other women being happy with where they are with their
bodies, it’s really hard for me to believe that they truly feel this way.

They couldn’t be any more happy with their body than an individual severely
scarred in a fire or with a major handicap can be “happy” with where they are
with their situation. I think a person can come to grips with their body and
accept themselves, but not be totally HAPPY and not wish to be of a normal
weight. Heck! Even though I’m at my goal, I’m not totally happy with my body.
My nose is too short, I have some skin I’d like to shed, my hair is thin and
fine, and my ears and too big! LOL I’m not happy with these things, but I’ve
learned to accept them since I can’t change much of it.
Seriously, the show was extremely interesting, even painful at times,
as I remember the days when I was in their shoes. All the women were
extremely attractive but I couldn’t help but wonder how much more beautiful
they’d be if the weight was not an issue.
I do wish there was a way of contacting the woman considering WLS and
giving her some advice. She said she was going to research it further but it
seems to me she doesn’t have the support we have in this group nor has she
really studied the internet for profiles, etc. It’s the profiles that turned
the corner for me!!
Thanks to each and every one of you for the support you’ve given all
of us in these groups!
Love,
Lacy
