panic

Last night as I lie awake in bed, these very powerful feelings came over me of
panic and nervousness. I have made this decision to change my life, and I KNOW
I am ready for it. But for some reason last night I couldn’t help thinking,
what if I made the wrong decision….what if after its done I can’t handle it
and hate myself for doing it? I know its ridiculous because this is THE best
decision I could make for myself, but I still couldn’t get those feelings out of
my mind. So now I am wondering…..is it possible to have a reversal of an RNY
done? I know once I get past the actual surgery I will be very happy with my
life, but I think knowing that it “could” be reversed would help settle my
nerves a bit.
Anyone else out there feel this way??

    Hi Kim,
Thanks for responding (and to everyone else who responded). My date is
scheduled for May 31st….45 more days. Up until the other night I was as happy
as can be about having it….then BAM! it hit me like a smack in the face. I
don’t actually “plan” on having a reversal…why would I want to put myself
through all that anxiety and pain Twice?!?! I think just knowing that it CAN be
done makes me feel that much better about it. I also worry about my kids….my
girls are 5 & 7 (soon to be 6 & 8 in June and July respectively). And I know my
husband worries about losing me. I have to say….we are very brave to go
through something like this and improve our lives. Just my opinion. 8-) hugs,

    Lori,
It is possible to reverse the surgery HOWEVER it is an even more difficult
and risky procedure than the first time around. Many surgeons will not do a
reversal HOWEVER it is possible to have it reversed. Does that make sense/
Many people go through a short period post op where they feel they made a
mistake. You need to realize that and prepare for it. The first few weeks
after this surgery are difficult but it does easier and better. You need to
be as prepared as possible and go into this with your eyes wide open. Know
that there will be some adjustments that you need to make and know that it
won’t be all sunshine and roses. But it will be worthwhile. Hope this
    answered your question.

Yes, it is. But you should never go into this surgery thinking you might get
it reversed. This is a permanent solution. That said, my surgeon has
reversed three and all of them were successful. One woman was 12 years out
from her original surgery and her old stomach works fine. Many surgeons
won’t reverse them even though they are reversible, so you should ask your
surgeon about it, but the only way I would ever reverse mine would be if for
some medical reason I needed to. However, it did give me peace of mind to
know if it became necessary my surgeon could and would reverse it and has
done so successfully already. Good luck!

    Hi Denise,
Thank you for your post. I totally agree with you about being completely
prepared. It took alot of researching and soul searching for me to make
this decision in the first place and I do NOT plan on needing it reversed,
but like I said in my email…just KNOWING that it CAN be done…..well
thats really all I needed to know….it makes it so much better. I know
this surgery can only help my health and thats what I’m in it for.
    Thanks again for responding,
    Lori

    Vicki,
That’s exactly that my point! Just KNOWING that it CAN be done is help
enough. I AM having this surgery, and I don’t PLAN on having a reversal…I
just wanted to see if it COULD be done.

When I was in school on finals week we were only in classes half a day. If
that’s the case it may be do-able for you. I know of a lady who had a lap rny
on friday, went home saturday and was in walmart that evening. I’m curious as
to whether your students know about your surgery. I would think that if they
did certain things that involve moving, carrying books, etc could be done by
them or an aide and let you e there, but be resting at the same time. Every
person is differnt so you may be one of those who has no difficulties
whatsoever. Still I think I’d plan to be off work for at least a week…..The
first few weeks are tough. But if you’re feeling up to it…go in! staying
busy like that may make being on liquids easier than if you were at home with
nothing to do but watch food commercials. Good luck on your surgery, recovery,
    and journey!
