Approved but not so happy, please help.

Thursday, November 27th, 2003

After waiting over a year to get a date I received a call that it
was “my turn”. Unfortunately, my repeated requests to have the
surgery performed laporscopically have gone ignored. They tell me
that the Dr. is only doing them open and that’s it. First of all let
me say that I would qualify to have the surgery laporscopically.
Second, I completely understand the fact that if the surgery was
scheduled for lap it does not necessarily guarantee that you’ll come
out of the surgery room that way.
Problem is I’m basically self-employed/single self-supported and
there is absolutely no way I can be out of the office for 4-6 weeks.
Any advise? I really want the surgery but I also need my job/income.

New to the group but an old hand at obesity

Thursday, November 27th, 2003

Hello…
New to this group as well….My name is Christine and I had a VBG on March
26, 2002….I “lucked-out” as my sister had her VBG in Feb 2001….so has
been a great support person, and example of what is possible!
I have lost about 23 lbs since surgery. But already feel healthier –
getting lots of sleep, drinking enough water to float, and eating healthy
mush….I’m actually into some real stuff — rice, chicken that is chewed to
oblivian….
I’m glad to have gone with a VBG….although it seems as if most of this
group went a different way….
So, in response to your query….Me! I’ve had a VBG and so far…so good!

oil slick?

Thursday, November 27th, 2003

You must be hanging out on the Graduate list. *smile*
An Oil Slick is when you leave residue in your underwear from eating too
much fat. Can happen when using Xenical, eating WOW chips, or from *some*
DS and Distal RNYs. Those who experience them are not terribly unhappy
about it because it is proof of the fat not being absorbed into their
system.
It isn’t a side effect that would make me smile.

hernia and loss of friends

Wednesday, November 26th, 2003

Hi Gang,
Haven’t posted lately..up until about 2 weeks ago, I was drowning in
depression, but have since started getting therapy and Wellbutrin. My mom
died Jan 30, and it has been hard for me. But, a good thing is that I am
down to 186 from 336, 9 months out from open RNY. I have had no problems
until recently, I have developed another umbilical hernia. I know that is
what it is..I have an appointment with my surgeon next week to confirm it.
Have any of you had to go back later and have a hernia fixed, and how long
did you have to stay in the hospital..I don’t want to stay in more than a
day or so..LOL.
Okay, here is my other problem. A while back, I posted that I had jealousy
problems with my 2 girlfriends, Wendy and Nancy, and now that problem has
resolved in the fact that we are no longer friends. Nancy’s husband and
Wendy’s husband were like brothers to me, and I have been unjustly accused
of having an affair with Wendy’s husband, and Nancy has taken Wendy’s side.

I’m new to this group

Wednesday, November 26th, 2003

Hello!
I’m new to this group. I’ve been reading and responding to a couple
of emails, but decided to formally introduce myself. My name is
Christine and I’m from Minneapolis Minnesota.
I had my surgery on March 26, 2002, at the University of Minnesota
Hospitals, Dr. Henry Buchwald. Anyone else out there from MN?
I’ve lost 23 lbs since surgery, but feeling very good. I think
yesterday was actually the first day I felt as if I really have this
drinking-eating thing down where I didn’t feel burdened by the whole
process…too much water…takes 45 minutes to eat 3 oz of food…
I actually spent a lot of time really paying attention to the
timetable of when and how much and each meal as given to me in
handouts and everything went well and felt ok once it was in me…the
water thing really seems to be a key factor — at least for me.
I’m not going to ramble…just wanted to say hi! and I’m glad you’re

Junior, Missy, and Womens sizes

Wednesday, November 26th, 2003

Hi to All,
I just had to jump in here to clear up the differences in clothing
sizes. I used to be a fashion designer so I know whereof I speak.
Juniors are built for young bodies. The arm holes are high and
tight, the bust is small, the waist is small and the hips are flat.
Juniors are built for the un-developed teen body. Junior sizes are
odd numbers ranging from 1 to 13.
Missys are the same general size as Juniors but, are more mature
figures, larger bust, waist and hips, more rounded. The arm holes
are bigger as a Missy’s upper arm is heaver than a Juniors. Missy
sizes are even numbers ranging from 0 to 14. Junior and Missy go
hand in hand, a Junior 9 is almost the same as a Missy 10, a Junior
11 is almost the same as a Missy 12, and so on. Some clothing
carries dual sizing saying it is, for instance, a 9/10 or 11/12.
Women are the largest size range beginning with 14 or 16 and going

Subject: unable to bypass the fat lady dept.

Tuesday, November 25th, 2003

So funny that someone else mentions this. Thats why i lvoe this group,
because the things i think of that seem so crazy to me…someone else is
going thru it too.
Its all part of the weight loss process i think. Its physical and mental. I
wondered at first, why do we have to go thru the psych eval bull to get
approval…But i understand more and more everyday……
I get sooooooo CRAZY in a store sometimes. There is like this vast array of
STUFF. and I want it all and want to try it all on. ANd go from one outfit
to another then to another. Then i get so frustrated cuz i only went in to
get a pair of kahkis for work, and end up comeing out with NOTHING! Not even
the one thing i needed. ITs like its too much for the brain to soak in.
I think I am sooooo Used to the confined walls of Lany BRyant…or the
confined corner of WOMANS WORLD in a department store. To be able to have so
many choices is mind boggling. WHat is the difference in Missy? and WOmans?
and all that mess? not to mention I have to get most of my pants now in the

Subject: Re: Sex Drive

SEX DRIVE? Did someone say SEX DRIVE?
Sex has a whole new meaning for me. I dont know about others. ITs wonderful.
<not that is was bad before
it was low before either. lol. Its just so much more fun now. My boyfriend
can pick me up and do all sorts of things unimagineable when you are morbidly
obese. I can SEE things i never could see before.
But there have been some weird times. Feeling a hip bone or pelvic. The
loose skin and the nonexistense of breasts anymore has made me at times feel
more self conscious than i ever felt in my life being overweight. But i have
a partner that makes me feel beautiful. Then and now, so that is a big
difference. I talk of tummy tuck and boob jobs and he just sighs. Saying if
i want to do it, do it. But dont do it for him. He loves who i am and what my
body has become.
I lvoe it that you can be so much closer to the one you love. And i do mean
closer in the physical sense. Everything just FITS better.
