My Head’s Still Hungry
Hi there. I am 3 months post-op (Open RNY). I am doing really well, I
exercise for 1 ½ hours 6 times a week. I’m eating healthy - protein,
fruits, veggies. I’m not eating any sugar, and almost no breads and
starches. I’ve yet to dump on anything. I’m loosing at a relatively
consistent rate (I’ve lost 48 lbs.). I’m even drinking over 100 oz of water
a day.
So here’s the problem…my head still wants to eat…maybe it’s an oral
fixations, I don’t know. I’ve been snacking for the past two weeks.
Albeit, I’ve been snacking on grapes, and melon, and carrots, string cheese
and such, but I’m afraid that I’m going to end up stretching out my pouch.
I’ve started water loading before I snack on anything…that is helping, but
I’ve still got the cravings. I’m just so afraid making poor choices that
will inhibit the effectiveness of my surgery. Has anyone else felt this
way or have any suggestions?
Thanks for listening,
Jodi

I have to agree with this maybe for another reason. I haven’t had
surgery yet and I’m still pre pre-opt.. (deciding) but in the past I
have been on the Atkins high protein diet (low carb) and while on
that diet the best side effect was ‘no appetite’!! after you clear
you system of carbs and start eating all that protein the natural fat
in the protein seems to work as a appetite suppressant. If yu don’t
eat the fat you want more food. So I noticed that if I had lean only
the effect was not as strong, so I would imagine your body needs a
certain amount of animal fat intake. I am not scientific but maybe
someone else who has had the surgery may have suggestions on how to
get the fat without upsetting the wls diet.
Don’t attack me please on this (lol) because its only an idea and
question really on my part too. I believe I have read that the sugar
and meat fats can cause dumping??
I find at times of high emotion I also am a grocery store
daily ‘visitor’. I also live alone and at one time I was beginning to
think maybe I had reached the age that I went there to have someone
to talk to, but decided that was not the reason..(I am on speaking
terms with everyone in my grocery store lol).
It may be a lot like the double addiction that comes with smoking.
You can get a patch to help with the nicotice addiction but you have
to work with the mental addiction yourself. The hand-mouth part, or
the habit of reaching for the cigarette without thinking. I think
grocery shopping for myself who went ‘no where else’ because of my
size, sigh, was the highlight of my day.
I also buy in larger quanties (usually sale items) and use the little
zip lock bags to freeze individual size servings so as not to waste.
This works really well and makes defrosting faster too. Now they have
the tiny zip lock bags I think they are called snack size that would
be perfect for even smaller serving sizes.

isn’t Brain Surgery. It say’s what you said, you still wanna eat.
It’s your brain that wants to eat. One word for ya…. Protein. You
need to get in some protein shakes.
