Many thanks from Brenda, the prodigal OSSGer!
Hi Folks–especially those of you who responded to my previous post:
Thank you all so much for the warm welcome back and the encouragement during my
2 month stress- and snacking-induced plateau! You really know how to encourage
and give a kick in the pants at the same time! It is also good to know that
many of us experience the return of the munchies at 6-8 months out, and that,
after a brief melee, one can regain control and get serious again about why we
went through all this risk and trouble in the first place.
Several of you have strongly recommended stopping snacking on anything that does
not have significant protein and lowish carbs. I have been doing this for the
past week, and it definately helps. I have noticed that I get a bit queasy if I
do eat a sweet, like I used to at 3-5 months out. It’s reassuring to know that
avoiding sweets for a while can allow you to regain some of that biological
advantage affectionately known as dumping that many of us have early out and
lose as we test the limits. I also agree with those of you who recommend not
snacking between meals at all. I may have to go there, but so far, so good on
limited high protein snacking.
Water, water everywhere also helps keep me full, so even if I am tempted to
snack, I can’t do much damage.
Exercise is my last big hurdle–yes, packing, cleaning, painting and generally
preparing for a move is exercise, but I need the metabolic boost of the aerobic
kind. Psychologist, heal thyself….
Well, thanks again to all who responded–it is definately good to be back.
