high cholesterol

Were you taking cholesterol meds pre-op that you aren’t taking now? My
labs did that specifically because I quit the meds the day I had
surgery. It took about 6 months for the cholesterol to lower into the
normal range… and my latest value was 188… *off* meds.
It isn’t uncommon for some labs to creep up before falling down…
cholesterol is one as is liver values. This is something to keep an eye
on, however, as it might be showing signs of hereditary cholesterol probs
as opposed to food ones.
As always, check with your doc!

I am 8 months out from my lap RNY and am down 114 pounds from 264 to 150. I
exercise 3-5 times a week and eat low fat, low sugar, drink my water, take my
vitamins and eat protien first. I went for my yearly physical and my PCP sent
me for bloodwork. My cholesterol went from 209 last year to 317 this year.
I don’t understand how that could happen. I’m sure one pint of Ben & Jerry’s
is likely more fat than I have had in the past 8 months. Last year I was a
load and barely got off the couch and now I am doing an hour of arobics and
lifting weights. My surgeon suggests a re-test and starting Lipitor, my PCP
    suggested starting Lipitor.
I am very frustrated and discouraged. Has this happened to anyone else? Can
anyone think of a reason this has happened?
    Thanks in advance.

dave, i have wondered the same thing. before surgery i was on lipitor and
had a total cholesterol of 169. now 4 months out i had blood work done and
cholesterol was 209 without the lipitor. i really do not want to go back on
any more meds, but with all the protein i am worried about the cholesterol.
    let hear from the others.
