Weight loss in hospital

Hey, I was just wondering (I am sure this varies) how much weigh one loses
while in the hospital. For example, if you had a 3 day stay and had lap
surgery how much weight did you lose while in the hospital? Melissa

You will probably not be pleased with the answer to this question. Many,
MANY people *gain* several pounds in the hospital… and I mean sometimes
    20+ pounds!
Between IVs, hypertension, basic immobility, and more IVs, people store
gobs of fluid in their bodies. It comes out within a couple of weeks, of
course, but when you are watching the scale so closely at first, it can be
    disconcerting (or incredibly anger producing!).
Lesson One: DO NOT LET THE SCALE RULE YOUR EMOTIONS!!!
The weight gained in the hospital is faux weight even if it measures on a
standard scale. Do your program and that weight, plus a hell of a lot
more, comes off in due time.
Oh, and I was an odd one and lost weight from day one. I lost about 14
pounds in the 2.5 days I was in the hospital… still water weight, for sure!

I had a 2 night stay in the hospital. I came home
weighing MORE than when I went in. They pump you full
of fluids to the point of not being able to recognize
my own hands because they were so swollen. That
weight falls off fast once you’re home, but don’t be
surprised to come home and weigh more!

    Melissa,
Count on GAINING in the hospital. From all the fluids and everything that
are pumped into you you may gain. I know I gained 7 pounds while in the
hospital. So don’t be surprised if the scale moves up — it happens to many
    many people.

    Melissa,
I had lap and I think I came home 15lbs heavier. I refused to weigh
myself. The fluids add extra weight and the gas they pumped up my stomach
with had not yet dissipated so I actually left the hospital bigger then when
    I went in.
Don’t worry it all goes down and then you keep on losing.
