How Long
Generally how long is it before you feel like travelling after surgery? I have
a cruise scheduled and paid for on Jan 5, 2003. If I can get the surgery by the
end of October - is 2 months healing time enough where at least you would not be
miserable? I know I’d not be doing much - but laying around - but I will be
driving to FL from OH and just curious how soon after the surgery did people
feel like getting out for a major vacation like this.

Kim,
Are you having the procedure open or lap? Lap may
mean you feel better quicker. I had a lap rny on
9/11/01. Five weeks later I was at a three day
conference in Reno. I drove there from LA. I don’t
see any reason why you wouldn’t be ready for a cruise
in early January after later October surgery. As for
the drive, just make sure you give yourself enough
time. You may not want to drive straight through
(hopefully, you’re not doing all the driving) but
break the trip up a little. You should be fine. And
you’ll be eating enough solid foods that you should
have some idea of what will work for you by then.
