Need tough love!
Hi Cathy,
What you’re facing is a dilemma I’m anticipating. I have not had the surgery
yet, but I keep wondering if this will be only a temporary fix for me if I go
through with the surgery.
The one thing I keep seeing constantly is this: gastric bypass is only a tool.
Only you can make it work.
I’m considering going to counseling to deal with my food issues. If I can’t
control myself now, I don’t know how this surgery will change that on a
permanent basis. Maybe this would help you as well. Good luck.

Counseling is the best. Before, during and after…I think
it should be mandatory for all WLS patients to talk with a
professional…because like they say, they operate on our
stomachs, not our minds.
Using the time after surgery to learn the new us, and to be
able to talk with a counselor to help us adjust to what’s
happening… certainly the way to go.
Also, going to a care group, or support group before,
during and after, and talking with each other helps so much
too. The Internet is great, but it’s still nothing like
talking one on one with someone who’s been where you are,
or are going to be.
