MGB — info not correct

“currently a doctor without a place to practice. I am not presuming
to tell people not to do this — you have to make your own decisions
but based on everything I have heard I would NEVER encourage anyone
to have the MGB. If you are thinking about this please do research
and don’t discount what former patients are saying. one of the things
that bothers me is apparently the followup is done via email. Sorry
but followup for this surgery needs to be done in person.”
I had my MGB well over 3 years ago, and prior to having the MGB I
researched for over a year several other WLS …. NON of them had
more than a few month follow up! Even today, MOST WLS doc’s do not
perform long term follow up — they have your primary care doc do it.
Just because Dr. R has taken part of his practice over the
information super highway — people get ticked?! He doesn’t just
have you fill in the blanks with your favorite #’s, most of us who
have had the MGB have our blood work done, and have it sent to his

office. Does this NOT make sense to anyone — who are we seeing when
we have a cold, sore throat, cough — our primary care doc, he will
see, should see, something out of the ordinary — we certainly aren’t
going to call our surgeon if we have a cough!
Something else to add — my father had a Billroth II over 25
years ago, due to bleeding ulcers — guess what he doesn’t see his
surgeon for it anymore, nor did his surgeon require him to keep
checking in with him!
And one final note — Dr. R is practicing again, and has been for
some time!
Funny how I just read a post not too long ago about us not saying
one surgery was better than another. I thought we were all here for
the same cause!

This must be taken on a case by case basis with docs.
My surgeon requires you to see him every week before
surgery and every week for the 1st month after
surgery. Then at least once a month for the first year
and every 3 months after that. And after surgery, you
never pay a copay again because he wants all of his
patients to come to all of their follow-up
appointments. He even makes you sign a contract
agreeing to go to all of them. I know people that are
7, 10 or more years out and go back to see him often.
I have not studied enough about the MGB to judge its
validity as a good weight-loss surgery but I will
start soon because my Mom is looking into different
kinds of surgery and dr rutledge has contacted her. I
wouldn’t want her to do any kind of surgery that I

don’t feel is the best for her.
