Nutrients - Help!

Saturday, March 27th, 2004

Hi, I wondered if anyone has experienced feeling like they weren’t
absorbing enough nutrients from their foods? I use to live in LA,
California and had a lot more information on this. I am not sure
what to take. I’m 15 mo. post-op and have lost over 156lbs. I have
tried protein powder - Atkins. It was ok. But I’m feeling like I
can’t continue to eat a lot of meat, and yet I don’t feel well if I
don’t. I am wondering if anyone has been into nutrition from a
spiritual holistic point of view that understands how someone who has
had Open RNY gastric bypass can get the highest nutrient absorbtion?
I take the flintstones vitamins my Dr. recommended I continue.
Anyway, if anyone has suggestions I’d appreciate your assistance. I
haven’t posted in a long time. Thank you!

New post-op is HUNGRY

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Hiya, everyone!
I just had an open RNY on May 17, and I’m already down 13 pounds.
(Hooray for me!) But I find that I’m very, very hungry. I’m sipping
on water constantly, and I’m on soft, bland foods. But I’m hungry!!
Anyone else felt this?

PCOS and slow weight loss

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Hi everyone. I was wondering if any women who have PCOS (Polycystic
Ovarian Syndrome) have experienced a slow weight loss after surgery.
Also, have the symptoms of PCOS improved for anyone after surgery.

New person here!!

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Hi, everyone. I am not really new to this group though about two years ago I
have a VBG done—it didn’t work (I was in the group then). I could go over
all the reasons why I believe it didn’t work—me, meds and anything else you
can figure on but no one knows for sure. I thought I was doing a good job.
I lost 60lbs at first and then boom, boom, boom I had it all back on me. The
weird part is I can’t eat like I did before that surgery—I can’t eat pizza
or meat or a whole slew of odd things. I don’t pig out on junk food. I
don’t do alot of snacking either. So if you can figure it out let ME know
ok? My surgeon can’t figure it out.
So here I am again. I was/am still so ashamed of the failure. BUT I want to
do it again only this time I am having the RNY done. I guess I should say I
MIGHT have the RNY done. I am still jumping through the hoops trying to get
all the things ready to send into the insurance company. I was informed
today that they might give me a hassle. Still I just right inbetween getting
approval and getting a surgery date. I am chomping at the bit. I would like

Hi everyone my name is Susan and have just started looking into
Gastric Bypass surgery. I have spent the last few weeks online
reading others stories. I read one and say this is for me then I read
another and wonder do I want to do this to my body. I am 5′6″ and
weigh 260. That is not as bad as some of the stories I have read but
I have other health problems. Also my mother died at the age of 57
and it was linked to her weight, my father died also at the age of 65
of a heart attack. I am 36 I want to be around to see my childern
grow up and play with my grandchildern. My husband is very supportive
he loves me the way I am but I can tell he is scared for me every
time I go to the doctor he gives me 20 questions he wants me to be
around for a long time. He will be behind me 100% if I do this or if
I dont.
Thanks Susan in Oklahoma

How Long

Thursday, March 25th, 2004

Generally how long is it before you feel like travelling after surgery? I have
a cruise scheduled and paid for on Jan 5, 2003. If I can get the surgery by the
end of October - is 2 months healing time enough where at least you would not be
miserable? I know I’d not be doing much - but laying around - but I will be
driving to FL from OH and just curious how soon after the surgery did people
feel like getting out for a major vacation like this.
Thanks!

Hi Cathy,
What you’re facing is a dilemma I’m anticipating. I have not had the surgery
yet, but I keep wondering if this will be only a temporary fix for me if I go
through with the surgery.
The one thing I keep seeing constantly is this: gastric bypass is only a tool.
Only you can make it work.
I’m considering going to counseling to deal with my food issues. If I can’t
control myself now, I don’t know how this surgery will change that on a
permanent basis. Maybe this would help you as well. Good luck.
