Surgeon in S.F. Bay Area

Wednesday, March 24th, 2004

Gang,
I’m having my surgery done out of state. But when I return home to the
San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland), I’d like to have a back-up
WLS expert, just in case I have major complications.
I have Cigna PPO, and I’d need a weight loss surgeon who accepts Cigna
PPO. But I can find out if the surgeon takes my insurance when I all
the office. What I need right now are suggestions for GOOD surgeons in
my area.
Take care,
Teena

Lactose intolerance?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2004

I have a question. I am now about 3 weeks post-op, but for about the
last week I have been having trouble with milk/milk products. I
noticed it first when I would mix my protien shakes with milk, but
now I can’t tolerate yogurt or cottage cheese either. I don’t know
if this is becoming a lactose intolerance or something else. And why
didn’t it show up right away if it is? Any info will help…
Thanks,
Lindsey

I need some advice. I understand that you are to stop drinking at least 1/2
hour before eating and wait at least 1/2 hour after eating. I am one who has
always drank a lot with my meals. I am 2 weeks post op and trying to change
this habit is hard. Does it get better? What do you do when you eat
something spicy?

Hello,
My name is Betsy and I am due to have my surgery on July 19th. I
have some questions if someone could help me please.
I’m just going to list my quetions and maybe some people can help me
with the answers.
1. How long is the average surgery? I am have the open version.
2. How long will I be in the hospital? The average time?
3. Will I be able to drink anything right after surgery?
4. When will I go to something other than liquids?
5. Will there be allot of pain? I have had a C-Section before, will
it be much more painful than that?
6. After surgery, (in the hospital) do you grave food or get hungry?
7. After surgery, will I recognize when I’m full?
8. When will I be able to start my workout program? Walking?
9. I wear acrilic nails, will I have to take them off prior to

somebody tell me I’m completely crazy, please

Monday, March 22nd, 2004

I am three weeks post op, and I just started eating after three weeks
of liquids. I thought it was strange that my stomach growled and
rumbled as if hungry the whole time, but by fear of hurting myself, I
didn’t eat anything until my time was up. I started with mashed
potatos, then went to oatmeal, then crackers. When I noticed that I
never got full or sick, I just ate a predetermined tiny amount of
these foods, I got curious. So, I ate two tablespoons of shredded
chicken, the inside of a small baked potato and a half a roll. When
an hour later I still felt completely fine, no feeling of fullness or
sickness, I decided to really test my pouch. I knew I was taking a
chance of becoming really sick, but I had to know. I slowly ate a
half a piece of apple pie, again a predetermined amount, and
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happened. Nothing. No fullness, no nausea, no
nothing.
O.K., I’m sure everyone’s thinking “Why would you do that to

Hi everyone! I am Traci. Soomewhat new to this tlist. I am leaving for
Monterey Mexico on May 29 for surgery May31. Iam VERY VERY excited, but also
have been kinda nervous and somewhat depressed, I think I am mourning my old
self and I am going through this alone-not much support. My mom passed a
year ago to the date of my surgery, so it is also a complicated emotional
time for me. I am nevertheless EXTREMELY happy I am doing this and very
excited! I really need support so please e-mail me ! and if you are on
obesityhelp.com please sign my surgery page I am under Traci Duncan Thanks!

out of lurk, into post

Sunday, March 21st, 2004

hello all, I’ve been lurking here for some time. I just got my
surgery date, June 11, with Dr. Keating in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I’m
48, 5′4″, and 257 pounds. (I gained 10 pounds in my pursuit of a
surgeon and insurance approval!) The information I’ve gotten from
this site has been very helpful. The only piece missing is solid
information on those who are 10 years or more out from the RNY. I
have looked everywhere, and cannot find much of anything. I know the
surgery is more than 20 years old, so I’m thinking positively that
the people who had it that long ago are just having too much fun to
participate in any studies or post to online support groups. If
anyone has any good information on this to share, I’d really
appreciate it.
