deciding between surgeons-Columbus Ohio

Monday, May 31st, 2004

I have been approved for surgery and now I am trying to decide
between two participating surgeons. I would like feedback on either
Dr Needleman or Dr Price in Columbus, Ohio. Please help me make my
decision. Thanks!

BPD/DS Post Surgery

Monday, May 31st, 2004

After doing much research, I am now strongly considering BPD/DS
surgery over RNY because of the greater long-term weight loss and the
ability to eat more normally. I do, though, have some concerns about
the post-surgical problems including loose bowel movements and foul-
smelling flatulence. I would appreciate feedback from those who have
had this surgery to help me better understand what to expect short
and long-term following surgery.
Thanks, Joe

Home from the Hospital!!!!!

Sunday, May 30th, 2004

Hello,
This is Dawn again.
Well, I am now on the other side … as it has been said on this list.
I am sooooo totally surprised at how I feel. <smile
I had VBG - done Wednesday morning … by Wed afternoon I was walking to the
bathroom on my own.
On Sat the ng tube was gone and by Sunday I was eating food.
I had to laugh when I ate my first meal… (and still laughing about it)….
just how little it takes to make me feel full.
I came home yesterday from the hospital… and last night ate what I will now
and always consider a meal…. LOL all 4-6 bites of it.
My doc told me I was doing great… a great candidate … and do not be
afraid to try different foods. I did ask about eating foods that are fat
free — sugar free — etc., and he told me not to worry about it for I am
eating so little.

ALMOST 1 YEAR UPDATE…KINDA LONG

Sunday, May 30th, 2004

Hello everyone, well July 2nd will be a year for me and what a year it has
been.
I have lost 186 pounds YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I have gone from 356 lbs. to 170 lbs. and feel wonderful.
Really haven’t had any problems to speak of except my hernias even though I
had hernia repair in February there are back which bites and they hurt worse
this time around. (but if this is the worse side effect I ever have I will be
happy happy) I can do things I never thought I would be able to do again,
like walk w/o getting out of breath, our daycare class went to the zoo last
week and I actually kept up with the kids that were in my group. It was great
and they loved it since I didn’t have to stop and take a rest every 10
minutes these kids are all school age so they can sure go go go and so did I.
I can fit in booth at a restaurant, I can drive comfortably now, I can see my
feet, shave my legs without killing myself, my hubby can finally pick me up
which he thinks is funny cause now he just moves me out of his way when we

Band Adjustment

Sunday, May 30th, 2004

Hi group;
I have a friend who has an adjustable gastric band who lives up north in
Lynwood. She goes all the way to Tacoma when she needs her band adjusted.
Does anyone know of a doctor more north, like Seattle who now does the band
procedure and adjustments. If you do know, if you also know the going rate that
would be good info also.
Thanks!

Second surgery

Sunday, May 30th, 2004

Well, I had gastric bypass laparoscopically January 28th and was
feeling great. I sailed through that with no complications and was
pretty much able to eat anything I wanted. I didn’t have any nausea
and I thought this whole thing was going to be a breeze. My weight
was coming off and I had just started feeling normal again. Then
all of a sudden at the beginning of June I got these awful stomach
pains and I ended up going to the emergency room and subsequently
got re-admitted to the hospital and ended up having emergency
surgery for adhesions that blocked off my small intestine. This
surgery was done open and I have a huge incision. I’ve been sore
and nauseous ever since. No food sounds good or tastes good and
nothing really sits right. I haven’t thrown up but I’ve just felt
crappy ever since. I’m also on an emotional roller coaster, too. I
guess from the surgery. I cry every day over nothing and when I’m
not crying I just generally feel down. I can’t tell you anything

New to this site - Anyone in Alvin/Clear Lake, CA

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

I am scheduled for an EGD tomorrow at 11AM at Vista in Pasadena.
Anyone familiar with this procedure and location?
Dr. Ferrari is doing the procedure. He also did my VBG five years
ago. I lost 50 or so pounds in the first year, but no more. Could
have been due to my emotional state as I am an emotional eater.
However, I am desperate to lose the weight (gained back everything)
and am researching the possibility of a revised gastric banding.
Anyone familiar with this? Any words of wisdom? Has anyone else
used Dr. Ferrari or NeWeigh? My experience with them has been
positive.

100 off

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

Made my second goal today. I am so excited to have 100 pounds off.
Just 8 more to my final goal. I got my adjustable band on the 24 of
July last year and I have been given a new life. WLS is just so
wonderful. We are so lucky that all these different surgeries are
available to us, with such good Docs now. I love being able to run up
and down my staris and not run out of breath. I know that this is a
life time commitment to changed behavior and we are only given tools,
but man am I grateful for the tools. I am now off my B/P medicine and
look like a normal person. I wish you all the best in your journey
and love all the support that comes from these boards.
