diabetic neuropathy
Hi Folks, This is my first of many to come questions. I have severe diabetic
neuropathy and would like to hear from any of you who are post op who had
neuropathy . I have se some of the posts to this list where people were
expecting their neuropathy to lessen in time; I know this is something I need
to talk to my doctor about but, I really would like to know what has happened to
others. It is really strange I am not afraid of the surgery I just want to know
if some of my co- morbids will go away in time possible. Mary Catherine

Mary Catherine,
I think the reason that people expect their neuropathy to lessen in time is
because many people’s diabetes going into “remission,” or it is well
controlled. With well controlled diabetes, neuropathy often gets much, much
better.
If your diabetes is still out of control, even after surgery, you could
probably expect that the neuropathy will still be prevalent.
As far as knowing what has happened to others, I can’t speak in terms of
having the surgery, but I have spoken to many people whose neuropathy has
gotten much better, or even went away once they acheived tight control (it
doesn’t happen overnight though - the pain will go away in time). If the
neuropathy is severe as you said, it may not go completely away (since the
nerves will be damaged), but will likely get much better.
This may not be exactly what you were looking for, but I hope it helped :o)
