Second surgery

Well, I had gastric bypass laparoscopically January 28th and was
feeling great. I sailed through that with no complications and was
pretty much able to eat anything I wanted. I didn’t have any nausea
and I thought this whole thing was going to be a breeze. My weight
was coming off and I had just started feeling normal again. Then
all of a sudden at the beginning of June I got these awful stomach
pains and I ended up going to the emergency room and subsequently
got re-admitted to the hospital and ended up having emergency
surgery for adhesions that blocked off my small intestine. This
surgery was done open and I have a huge incision. I’ve been sore
and nauseous ever since. No food sounds good or tastes good and
nothing really sits right. I haven’t thrown up but I’ve just felt
crappy ever since. I’m also on an emotional roller coaster, too. I
guess from the surgery. I cry every day over nothing and when I’m
not crying I just generally feel down. I can’t tell you anything

specific as to why. It’s just a bad feeling. It’s been two weeks
since my surgery. I’m wondering if anyone else had anything like
this and will it get better and will I get back to where I was
before and able to eat again and not feel so sick. This surgery
can’t even compare to my lap GP. This has really taken a toll on me
and I’m not sure where to go. I was prepared for the first surgery,
but this one was just forced on me and I wasn’t ready for it at
all. Any words of encouragement or advice are appreciated. Any
ideas to get the nausea to go away?
Thanks
Sheila

I am about 6 months out. I have had a lot of complication - ulcer
where there intestines meets up with the stomach, stricture in
espoghgus (sp?), stomach not emptying (bc it’s not contracting
properly) - and so on. Seems each time we cleared up one problem
another sprung up. Despite all this I have maintained my sanity -
and can’t complain about 100 pound weight loss. All of this though
has wreaked some havoc on my health - clearly and I have not been
able to work. Right now we are discussing a 2nd surgery due to a
stricture in my intestines as you exit my stomach. I have an appt.
tomorrow for a 2nd opinion and then decide if a 2nd surgery will help
me. Right now I can not tolerate any food and have been only doing
liquids. I have yet to read about anyone else having this many
problems - individually yes; but not combined. Nor have I have heard
of anyone having them to go back in; bypass the intestines again and
reattach - has anyone out there had this second surgery? I just

wanted some input from all of you. I have been lurking on here since
my surgery in Dec. and found it to be so useful - thanks to all.

    Amy,
Sorry to hear things are going so badly for you. I hope the problems are
resolved soon. If they determine you need a second surgery lets pray it will be
the end of all your difficulties.
There are a couple of OSSG groups for people with complications. I did a search
under ossg complications and found three, there may be more. They are:
ossgwound comp; ossg gone wrong; and ossg evidence ( not sure about this one but
the description says “Sharing actual hard data and evidence about WLS surgeries
and complications and postoperative needs. Nobody here is trying to sell you
    anything”).
You could check these out. They may be of help
    Thinking of you.
