update on life

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

hello all,
just thought i’d drop a quick note. Its been a real yucky week
for me and my family. my husbands ex, who was i thought my friend,
has decided we are not worth her affections any longer after 6 years
of doing everything together(except sex, of course!!:o)she and i had
an arguement because she felt it proper to tell my husbands 2nd
youngest daughter that she wouldnt be allowed to see him if she
failed her p.e. class!! but that very same week allowed her to goto
disneyland. anyways i told her that i felt her priorities were f*cked
(excuse the language) and that she was using my husband to punish
their child, which i felt was wrong and not acceptable. she got
angry and told all of her friends that we were trying to take her
daughter from her, which is not true, and therefore she has
subsequently filed against us in court in california. mind you we are
in oregon!! then her and her friends got together and all made up

Anyone have a crampy pain post op?

Friday, May 28th, 2004

I am one week post op today, lap RNY, with GB removal. Things are
going great! I do have one pain and cannot determine why. It is to
the top left of my belly button-internal-and it feels like a cramp,
lasts for about 30 seconds, is pretty severe and then goes away. I
can’t identify if it’s after drinking, taking pain medication,
hunger, gas, or what. Anyone else have this experience?

diabetic neuropathy

Friday, May 28th, 2004

Hi Folks, This is my first of many to come questions. I have severe diabetic
neuropathy and would like to hear from any of you who are post op who had
neuropathy . I have se some of the posts to this list where people were
expecting their neuropathy to lessen in time; I know this is something I need
to talk to my doctor about but, I really would like to know what has happened to
others. It is really strange I am not afraid of the surgery I just want to know
if some of my co- morbids will go away in time possible. Mary Catherine

Two questions.

Friday, May 28th, 2004

Hey everyone,
I have a couple of questions and I was wondering if anyone else has
experienced these things. First, I constantly have dry mouth. I
drink all of my water a day, but no matter what I do I can’t get rid
of the dry mouth. And two, my libido has just gone through the
roof. As anyone else had similar experiences?

Protein ideas

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

My nutrionist prefers that we avoid protein shakes
unless it is a last resort to get in the protein. He
has told me from discharge time at the hospital that
surgar free Carnation Instant breakfast is a great way
to go. I’m curious as to why you included it in your
list of ones to avoid? Is there something I should
know?

Middle Age Male Out-Of-State Lap RNY Surgery

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

I am about to meet my surgeon at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NY (I live in
Florida) and I will be 60 in September. Are there any special
problems or issues those of us who are middle-age face in having the
surgery? Special problems or issues having surgery 1,000 miles from
home? Post surgery? Feedback from anyone appreciated. Special
interest if there are any middle-age males who can share their
experience with me?

Sudden Nausea

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

Hi,
I had the gastric bypas proximal almost four weeks ago. I have been eating
the same things pretty much for the last two weeks. On Friday I started
getting nauseous every time I eat. Sometimes I vomit but mostly I just wish
I would. I don’t over fill and I haven’t changed anything (been racking my
brain) Is this normal and how long will it last. Also, I have not lost any
weight in two weeks despite barely eating. I am lucky if I get 800 calories
in a day and I only drink water and one protein shake a day. Any ideas?
Thanks for any help!

Vitamin Reaction?

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

Here’s one I’ve never heard before and I am looking for opinions before I
make another purchase.
The only requirement from my surgeon is a “multi-vitamin”. Flintstones
chewables are fine, but not required.
First I tried chewing the Flintstones and the taste was so awful it caused
me to gag. Then I tried to swallow them without chewing and I couldn’t
because it hurt. So I switched to One-A- Day Maximum Formula. While they
are large and not particularly pleasant to swallow, I can tolerate getting
them down. The problem, however, starts about 15 minutes after and
continues for up to two hours. It starts with the front of my face getting
tight. Then my jaws gets tight followed by a mild headache. This is followed
by mild nausea. I have tried taking it with food, with various amounts of
liquid, and at different times, but I get the same reaction. For about the
next two hours I feel mildly ill and have to really pace myself with my
activities. Lots of times I feel like I need to lie down after taking my
