Airline/Discrimination

Wednesday, May 26th, 2004

Thats just the point. There are no guidlines. It will be up to the
individual selling you the ticket to decide if you are too big or not.
One may say you need another ticket while the agent next to them may
not.

Airline/Discrimination Question

Wednesday, May 26th, 2004

I am just curious to know what guidelines are in place for the airline
employees to make an assessment/judgement call of who needs the extra seating
and who does not?
Although I do not fly very often because of the discomfort (even thin I hated
flying), I am extremely concerned. Based on the reaction from this group
alone, I would not like to be the person to make that call and I would think
this would be very difficult for anyone to do so without having a scale
available to weigh passengers before boarding and guidelines for those who
exceed weight limits. Do these things currently exist?

EGD

Tuesday, May 25th, 2004

Wanted to reassure you that the EGD is very quick and painless! I had
it done and was very nervous about having to swallow the camera. They
give you a sedative and you are out, you wake up a little while later
and the whole thing is over and your in recovery. I was very impressed
with the whole thing when it was all said and done. Best of luck to you
and your procedures.

Gross Question/Problem!

Monday, May 24th, 2004

This may be graphic so be warned…it’s about stools. SO SORRY To have to
ask this here!
Hi friends.
I am 8months postop today (exactly 8 months today) and I have a problem, I
think. This morning and yesterday morning when I used the bathroom, the
color was a very very dark brown. Almost black, like VERY VERY dark brown.
This morning afterwards it hurt…so it wasn’t diahreah, it was “normal”
consistency. This is just gross! Anyway, about 2hrs ago I went again, and
it was the same color, AND it had blood in it. My question is, could I be
bleeding on the inside, thus making this color come out? I am not having
any pains in my tummy at all…it’s like this afternoon I have had a very
upset stomach, it’s rumbling and growling, but nothing that hurts, at all.
(YET-crosses fingers…) Is this normal, or should I be concerned? The
blood this afternoon was the first time it’s happened, and I really think
it was because of pain, because I hurt again after I went this afternoon

ProteinEX

Monday, May 24th, 2004

Hello,
I am six weeks post-op. I’m doing ok with my eating but am having a
really hard time with protein. I don’t care much for meat, eggs and
cheese are ok but I know that’s not enough. Same with the shakes,
they’re so thick I can’t get it all down and I know I’m just not
getting enough.
I read about proteinEX a long time ago on this website, so I called
Walgreen’s and had them order it for me. I went and picked it up last
night and now I’m afraid to take it. It’s full of ingredients I have
never heard of, and couldn’t pronounce to save my life. There’s even
a warning about one of them. Is it safe? Has anyone ever asked their
doctor about it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Anybody having motility problems/taking reglan?

Monday, May 24th, 2004

Two months after my surgery, my pouch decided to develope “motility”
problems, meaning digestion slowed to a point of being painful and
causing me to lose my appetite. The drug that helps this problem,
Reglan, does great, except the side effects are driving me nuts…
anxiousness, nervousness, jitters, can’t sit still. Is anybody else
facing this problem, and do you know of any other solutions to this
digestion problem? Help! Linda

Loose skin

Monday, May 24th, 2004

Hi all
I am now 8 months post-op and down 95 pounds. Went from size 22/24 to
current size 10/8. I love my energy level and all that I can do now
that I’ve lost so much of the excess baggage. I can eat what I want
but not as much as before WLS. (Don’t dump at all.)
I will probably lose at least 25 more pounds before my body says no
more. At that point I could fit easily into a size 6….except for
all of the excess skin under my arms and my flapping belly.
I know lots of you have had surgery to remove the skin and
the “apron.” Was it worth it in terms of the recovery and the pain
afterwards? Did your insurance cover it? How did you locate a good
plastic surgeon?
Thanks again.

Dry skin moisturizer post-WLS? Advice?

Monday, May 24th, 2004

Just a couple of thoughts on the dry skin thing. First thing that comes to
mind is dehydration. I’m in Las Vegas (a dry heat, ya know?) with heat that
is literally sucked out of your skin. Water is so very important. And
important just as water. Not iced tea, coffee, crystal light, etc. Seems
to me that with our surgery what is ok for normal people isn’t ok for us.
We need extremes. For example, for normies a dosage of any medicine may be
one pill but for us it could be 2 or 1/2! Because of our lack of stomach
acid or malabsorption! So in the same way, we need more fluids because of
our bypass.
Which leads me to my second thought on dry skin. So here we are, changing
our life and for once eating good healthy foods. Many of us go low carb,
and watch the fats. I eat lots of salads, veggies, fish and stir fry.
Very, very little fats. My most recent labs had my cholesterol at 116 and
my triglycerides at 47. My surgeon said, “You really don’t eat any fats, do
you?” He said I have the lowest triglycerides of all his patients. He

new member needs protein ideas

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004

I am 4 weeks out of surgery, open rny. I began at 274 and am now 247
1/2. I had no pain after surgery and my recovery has been so easy.
I am now at the point where my doctor is allowing me to try most
foods. I have only had one problem, chicken (dark meat). All other
foods have been tolerated well. The 40 grams of protein that I am
supposed to have is difficult to get in, as I can eat such small
amounts each meal/snack, and I am drinking most all of the time when
I am not eating.
I found some protein bars w/o sugar and am trying those to get at
least 1/2 of the protein requirement in, any suggestions?

my Dr. visit

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004

Now remember my support group ran and told the Dr.
every negative thing I said about him. And an online support group forwarded
e-mails I wrote about him:
last night I had to go see him. This is what happened.
Robbyn
It starts out I get home and my hospital records were there
for the 32 days I was in the hospital. I could not understand it. But I read
Dr.’s words. Per my sister
I was eating solid foods 2-3 weeks post op and that’s what
caused my stapleline disruption. I was livid and confronted
that sister and she hung up on me. First of all I was post op
4 months before I got a disruption. I knew because I have
severe acid reflux and it wasn’t till then that I got it.
Second. I live alone I never talk to or see that sister because she hurts me
at every turn. Since we were children she has always been jealous of me.
