Angry/Need Support

Saturday, June 26th, 2004

I am experiencing a lot of anger post op. It has nothing to do with the
surgery itself, it is more a social thing. I feel like since having wls and
making a major change in my life, I am changing my boundaries and no longer
wish to tolerate or deal with people who treated me poorly when I was
fat..well I am still fat ,but I am on the road to changing that and well I
suppose a whole lot about who I am is changing. I have always been very
social, well-liked and fairly popular in my social circle but there has
always been an undercurrent of individuals who feel they did not have to
treat me well becuase of my size. Now, I am so pissed off and angry
constantly. I have and continue to be in therapy on going ( for many years)
and don’t feel it is an interpersonal therapy issue specific to me per se,
but rather an obstacle I am truly having to face. I need support and some
dialogue around this, and I would specifically like to hear from people who
has experienced these feelings, are experiencing these feelings and can
relate to what I am expressing. Please e-mail me privately. Thanks!

I am only two months post-op, but the scale has not moved in about a
month. I was 324 pre-op, and I’m down to about 280 now, but I’m
starting to get frustrated because I haven’t lost anymore in so
long. At first it came off so easily too so i was so excited. I
don’t even think I’ve been losing any inches because my clothes fit
me the same way they did a month ago. I don’t even know what else I
can do at this point. I walk at least 2 miles every day, I go
swimming several times a week, I eat about 600 calories and 40 grams
worth of protein every day, I take my vitamins religiously, and I
drink at least 8 large glasses of water a day. Over the past week,
I’ve been taking protein shakes almost every day and upping my water
intake even more. But the scale still won’t budge. What is going on
here?
Has anyone else experienced a plateau like this so soon after surgery?

Entertaining - Fun - Finally:-)

Hi All -
I’m almost 8 weeks out and down about 35 pounds (haven’t been on the scales in
about 2 weeks) I have to tell you about our 4th of July Holiday. My hubby (who
also had WLS and is almost 16 weeks out)and I love to host large gatherings for
holidays. We have the largest house and the only pool of any of our family and
most of our friends so we gather up family and friends 6 - 8 times a year,
always with plenty of food, drinks if they choose - kids running around - adults
visiting and always lots of laughter. For the past 2 years, it’s been a real
chore for me instead of a fun time - hated to give it up because I liked doing
it but it would take me a day or two to recover from all the “work”. I always
have things to cook - things to arrange and get ready so I start my preparing
about 7:30am - even after enlisting the help of my mother, sister and
daughter-in-law and resting a lot because the activity of doing the preparations
tire me out and by the time everyone starts gathering, I’m exhausted and zombied
and can’t enjoy the company and try to find quiet areas to just rest. Well -

my (late) 6 month check-up is today…

Thursday, June 24th, 2004

Hey Gang~
My (late) 6 month check-up is today and I am a little nervous — OK
I’m lying I’m scared really. I don’t feel like I’m on track like I
shuld be (and that others are) and I’m afraid I’m going to get
scolded.
Since my period started last monday, I have had to go back up a size
in jeans and now it feels like my weight loss has stopped totally.
I realllyyy don’t want to be “yelled at” - too many doctors have done
this to me about weight issues before.
I know what the errors I’m making are (or I’m pretty sure that I do)-
I know that my excersize is almost non-existant and my sugar intake
is high - I don’t dump on anything - and I still drink Mocha’s in the
morning.
Although on the plus side, I take my vitamins, and am getting ever
increasing amounts of water and am doing protein shakes at least

Hello all, I’m a new member and I’m considering have surgery. I’ve
been looking into lapband but someone told me that since I’m a
quantity eater I should do VBG instead.
I think that even lapband has losts of negatives (slippage, erosion
etc)it is much less invasive and reversable then VBG or RY but then
again I dont know much about all those either.
Can any of you guys explain to me the difference and what I should do
?
thanks in advance

Happy Independence Day/Surgery Day

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

Happy Independence Day to all of you who have already had surgery and
are freeing yourselves from an unhealthy situation.
(My independence day is exactly 4 weeks away.)
I have what is probably a typical pre-op question…
I won’t be meeting with the surgical nurse to go over what to expect
post-op until the night before surgery, (only time she has available)
and as that will be a little late to go shopping… I was wondering
what sort of things I’ll need for the hospital, and immediately after
coming home?(Until I can shop again.)
Any advice appreciated!

Anyone have pain in their lower intestinal area?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

Hi all -
I’m almost 5 months post-op (LAP RNY) and having been doing well
except lately I have been experiencing pain in what appears to be my
lower intestinal area. The pain is similar to menstrual cramps.
These come and go and haven’t been severe enough to contact my
surgeon yet.
Has anyone had similar pain and do you have any suggestions?
I’d appreciate any feedback.
Thanks - Eileen

Can hernia’s be avoided?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

I have read that a lot of people develope hernia’s after this type of
surgery, and that it seems to cause great complications in most of
the cases. Is there anything that a person can do do avoid this?
Any insight would be appreciated, Shelly
