HUSBAND POST OP 17 MONTHS
My husband has posted many messages on this board, but I want to ask
A question from a wife’s point of view.
My husband had his bypass done 17 months ago, and it’s been pure hell
for me to watch him basically starve to death. At this point, he
still can’t eat any kind of meat. His main diet consists of mashed
potatoes, eggs, and certain types of fish only. If what he eats
isn’t pureed, he can’t eat it. My question at this point, is this
normal at this stage of post op or is it just more bad luck. My
husband and I have not eaten the same meal since his surgery. So it’s
very hard for me to eat certain foods in front him, even though he
says it doesn’t bother him, I feel so guilty for wanting a steak, a
piece of fruit, or a piece of bread knowing that he can’t eat any of
these type of foods anymore. Also he is still losing weight at a
rapid rate. I just need to know if this the norm. Also I would like
to hear from of the spouses about their feeling, especially from
those who are also fighting the battle of the bulge themselves. Any
insight would be gladly taken.
Thank you for allowing me to vent.
