Questions, Answers and More!
I am a newbie to the club and this is my first post. So I will throw
my two cents out there!
If you’re already eating solid foods one month after your bypass (I
don’t think you specified what procedure you had done) then perhaps
you’re moving too fast and should go back to soft foods. But you did
the right thing in contacting your Doctor and I’m sure they will get
you in the right direction.
I had an open RNY on 8/15/01. I was not considered ‘morbidly obese’,
but due to asthma and osteoarthritis, my insurance approved me. I
was approximately 100 lbs overweight, a size 22 jeans, and now wear a
very comfortable size 10, even an 8 in some things, and have lost
almost 100 lbs, feel absolutely wonderful and have been told I look
great. I still don’t recognize myself sometimes in passing a mirror.
I do things now that I never thought I would, and my surgeon is
pleased, pleased, pleased with my progress. While some say I have
been ‘lucky’ as I haven’t really experienced that much discomfort and
vomiting, I would like to think that I have tried hard to do the
right thing. I still think about food, but after months of still
helping myself to large portions, it’s a spoonful of this, and a
spoonful of that…tonite it was a small piece of fish, a little
broccoli, and about 2/3 of a small red potato. I really try to eat
healthy, but I am not perfect….have never experienced any ‘dumping’
that is known to go along with this procedure, but I know when I have
had too much sugar as I get somewhat nauseated and I tell myself
to ‘back off’, and it passes within 15-20 minutes. Steak doesn’t
digest well, so I stay away from it, but never was a steak eater
anyways! I take my vitamins and try to stay hydrated. H20 isn’t my
beverage of choice, I prefer tea, but I do make an effort EVERY day
to drink more water…and I think I have noticed a difference and
feel better - even lost a couple more pounds. I too was worried
about hair loss, and have kept a close eye on it, but haven’t
experienced this.
I am scheduled for a hysterectomy in 2 months - don’t have a problem
with this, just hate the whole hospital thing again - but I will
benefit in the long run….
Ok- there it is….I truly enjoy this group and have benefited from
the many postings that I have read.
Good luck to all!
