Sharing some accomplishments…
Since there seems to be a rash of “accomplishment” posts coming out of
here, I thought I’d throw in my 2 cents.
I enrolled in a Fitness club 2 days ago. I have already been there both
days! I can’t believe how different working out is at the weight I am
now (190), as opposed to at my highest weight (330).
The Fitness club offers personal trainers (included in your enrollment
fees) so I’ve already talked to two of them, and today I had the most
awesome experience with the trainer that gave me my fitness assessment
tests. She had been rather overweight as a teenager due to diabetes and
a misdiagnosis of her disease then and the wrong kind of insulin. So
she sympathized with much of what I had said about being overweight and
not wanting to work out.
At any rate, she encouraged me to keep extra close track of my progress,
as she’d like to have me do a success story for the club when I get to
my goal weight. She said that just my attitude now, in talking to
others would very likely be able to inspire other people to work out.
IMAGINE THAT! Me………….. inspiring someone else to be healthy!
OH MY!
But exercise is finally fun. I never thought I would utter those words.
I’m not beat red in the face gasping for breath after a work-out. I am
sore, but comfortably so… no agonizingly as I always was after any
kind of work out at my heaviest. (Which, consequently was pretty much
why I only worked out like once a month; and I think I only did that
because I had forgotten by that time how much it hurt.)
Anyway, I just thought I’d share my joy there. With only 30 more pounds
to go to get to my goal, I can hardly wait to get to the gym tomorrow.

Hi all,
I’ve been lurking here for about a month now and I am getting such a lot out of
this site and another Australian site I have joined. I am from Perth, Western
Australia (isn’t the internet a great dissolver of distance) and I am in the
research pre-op phase. I had a consultation with my doctor in December last
year and he told me that he wouldn’t operate unless I was covered by private
insurance. From what I can gather Australia has an extremely different health
insurance system than in the US (thank goodness) and I just have to wait out the
1 year qualifying period but if I had been responsible and had already had
private insurance I wouldn’t have had to wait at all. In retrospect I am sure I
will get to appreciate the time spent contemplating and researching. I have
decided to have the Adjustable Gastric Band done and I am looking forward to
being on the other side.
I was very pleased to read your message Kyndra, not only for the encouragement
but also for the fact that your start and goal weights seem to be the same as
mine. I say “seem” as we use a metric system here and I spend half my time
reading the posts with a calculator in my hand (330 divided by 2.2 equals
…tap tap tap multiplied by 2.2 tap tap tap etc). Oh well a little mental
stimulation never did anyone any harm!!
Good luck to everyone, I’ll keep lurking.
