<description>Sherri, Hi and welcome to our group. It sounds like your doctor has
recommended that you check out WLS. You did not mention how heavy you
are or if you even qualify to have the surgery. Usually you need a
BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or greater or 35 with co-morbidities like
sleep apnea or diabeties. If you do qualify and already have
documented proof of attempted weight loss you should not be asked to
"try again"! Get your GP involved and get the ball rolling. Do
plenty of research so you know what you are getting into so you don't
end up with surprises after surgery.
I had a Lap RNY 10 months ago and have lost 105 pounds, putting me
right at 200 pounds. I'm 52. The eating is going well, but my mind
still craves junk. But, now I have the tool to continue losing and
 maintain my losses.
Best wishes to you, again welcome, and feel free to post any time with
 any question.

		<description>HI,
After quitting smoking 1-14-02...the weight starting pouring on in
the amount of 57 pounds in 3 months. Joining weight watchers and
going to the gym just drained any energy I had until I was rushed to
ER with lungs filled with blood clots! They say from years of
 smoking and HRT!
Now I can't get my strength back, can hardly walk 50 ft and I am
told I have to get the weight off or....face UGLY FUTURE! My GP
doctor..THANK GOD FOR HER....call Dr Higa, (Fresno) and got me to
the front of the line for surgery! I have researched and tried to
educate myself ASAP....and yes I am scared...but chosing surgery is
so much better than DEATH....until the counselor....has recomended
that I wait and go through MORE diet plans...any help out
 there...anyone have any advise????
I can't face more diet plans and exercise that will just fail
 &lt;!--more--&gt;
again!!! I feel like my time is running out and the weight keeps
coming on...I gained weight while in the hospital....
 Thanks...

		<description>Dear Lindy Lou,
Join the crowd! I am 5 weeks post-op lap rny. I currently am going through the
fairly common yuck phase. I can't stand the thought of food or drink and all
the protein drinks I've tried (it's up to 5 different brands now) I can't stand
the taste of, so if I drink them anyway, they come back up. I can't keep down
 solid food either.
At 2 weeks post-op, don't be surprised by your reaction to food. Try to sip on
your drinks little by little all day long, from the minute you get up until you
go to bed. If you just can't stomach the protein shakes, try baby food (beef,
veal, chicken)...it's not that bad once it's heated and seasoned. Also, try
making a smoothy with protein powder. All you need is some frozen fruit and
some juice and a serving of protein powder. For some people this is more
palatable, for others it's just as bad as everything else (me included).
Your taste buds will probably go through a lot of changes over the next weeks.
It may get worse before it gets better. But, as I have been told many times,
 &lt;!--more--&gt;
don't despair, this too shall pass!
