re>Wls with a 2 year old

Friday, October 29th, 2004

Aquilegia,
I am myself going to have surgery on November 19th and I have a three year
old. The thing that I am doing is for the first week or so after I am having
my mother help with the kids. I also have an 11 year old. If you have
someone in the family or family friend that could help thats the way to go.
If not, do you have a daycare provider? Utilize one to help with the first
couple of weeks. Have the father help when they are not working. Its
important to have strong support during this time. Think of it this way if
you had to have major surgery for some thing else you would find a way to
take care of your child. Think of this as a surgery you have to have done
and go from there. Remember mother nessecity is the mother of invention.
Your a Mom that means you can handle anything. Good Luck I hope this helps a
little.

what should I do next?

Hi all. I’m new to this group and have learned so much from reading
all the posts. I have just recently decided to have WLS and pretty
much decided on the BPD/DS. I have been to a seminar and and I’m
ready to take the next step. Tat’s my question-should I go ahead and
make the 1st appointment with the surgeon’s office or should I
contact my insurance company first? I’m scared to death to get
turned down. I would love to hear ya’ll thoughts.

Is there anyone out there, who has had w.l.s,with a very young child
in the home. I would love to hear from you and how you managed. At
this point, this is what is stopping me from moving forward in my
w.l.s pursuit. As always, thanks for listening. Tracey.

Hello,
My name is Lisa and I live in Worthington, OH. I am considering
surgrey and I really don’t know what to expect. I called my insurance
company today and they cover it as medically necessary. I really
don’t know if I qualify? What do I expect on Friday? What should I
bring with me. I am 258 pounds and 5″2. I have been overweight my
whole life. I had a baby in June. My pre pregnancy weight was 260. So
I am 2 pounds down. My Month 9 weight was 285 so all the weigh was
baby. I had a healthy baby boy. I could not get pregnant for 2 years
and then they put me on clomid then the next month I was pregnant. If
anyone can give me any insight to what to expect.
My husabnd is coming with me but doesn’t understand why I want to do
this, so I am also dealing with that.
I am hoping if all goes the way I want it to I wouls like a surgrey
date in December. Do anyone think that is to soon?

WLS and Hysterectomy for Uterine cancer

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

I had all my pre-op tests done and was ready to schedule my WLS with
Dr Herron at Mt Sinai in NYC. Today my GYN called and gave me the
results of the endometrial biopsy I had last week. Cancer. I have to
go back to him Friday to discuss a treatment plan and I know that one
of the options is a hysterectomy (especially since I’m Post-
Menopausal). I’d like to kill two birds with one stone and have the
WLS and Hysterectomy at the same time. My question: Does anybody know
if they will do the WLS if you have cancer? I realize why they
wouldn’t normally - Nutrition concerns. But since a complete
hysterectomy can cure endometrial cancer if caught in it’s early
stages, I wonder if they would still do WLS? Has anyone had a
Hysterectomy and WLS at same time? Please email me at
ibyte@…. Anyone who would care to pray for me, I’d
appreciate it. Kath

OK, I am scared now…Call me a baby cuz I am…

Hi all fellow group friends, here is the deal, I leave Wed. morning to go for 3
days of pre-op testing. I have to have the Upper Endoscopy {scope down my
throat} no problem I can handle that I have had it done before… Then I have to
have pH study & the Esophageal Motility Study, These 2 are my problem, I am
scared to death, I have a very sensitive nose due to allergies & I am worried
sick about these 2 tubes going up my nose… Actally I am so scared I have made
myself sick over this & I truly know this isn’t good. The one I have to keep in
there over night, my gosh how on this earth am I going to get through this???
All because of stupid gerds & acid reflux, dang thing anyways… PLEASE pray for
me, I am so serious I really dont know how I am going to get through these 2
test? The nurse says oh it’s no big deal it doesn’t hurt just a little
uncomfortable, Well HELLO my nose hurts as it is & then they are going to stick
a tube up there???? All I can say is if I make it through this tube thing I can
make it through anything…. Take care all just please keep me in your prayers
on Thursday morning around 7:30 am…. These 3 test is a 3 hr procedure… I’ll

Living overseas after WLS

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004

hello my support system
I have been offered a long-term, really good job in a developing
country where WLS is unheard of. I am seriously considering the offer
because it is a terffic opportunity for me. However, I am concerned
about long-term health issues related to my WLS. On October 23 I will
be one year out from my surgery (and have reached the dreaded
plateau.)
Can somebody please tell if I should be concerned about long-term
issues? All of you probably have a good idea about the possibility of
WLS health issues so far out from surgery. What are they?
I will be only a 2-hour flight to Sydney, Australia if I have serious
issues. I can take a year’s supply of vitamins with me and have more
shipped when needed, so that won’t be a problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Please don’t write back and
suggest that I discuss this with my doctor as I obviously will do

Haha anyway I have been getting all of the emails sent but not known
how to find you. Well I figured it out. So let me introduce
myself. My name is Heather I live in Ferndale Michigan. I had my
surgery on October 2000, and had RNY, I lost 130 lbs after surgery
and then lost another 30 when I had my Tummy Tuck hernia repair and
hystrectomy on July 23rd, 2002. Well I would still like to lose
another 30 lbs. I didnt go through BTC i had a private physician who
basically gave me the surgery and sent me off into the world to
figure this out for myself and let me tell you that is not the way to
go. But I am figureing this out for the most part. I would like to
know more about this confrence in Niagra Falls so any info would be
greatly appreciated. Please feel free to E-mail me anytime.
Espiecally any locals would like to find some people in my area.

November 17th

is my surgery date. This Thursday I am to go and see Dr. Jefferson Vaughan
in Jupiter, Fla, who will be performing a Lap. RNY. Then it is off to
Jupiter Medical Center for pre-op and then a Bariatric Seminar, so all of
this takes up the entire day.
THEN…..the following Tuesday (a week from THIS Tuesday), the big day
arrives!!!!! I’m SOOOOOOO excited. After going through the paperwork,
atending seminars, getting approved from the insurance company, having all
the necessary tests done, the day I have been waiting for for nearly 4
months will arrive.
Hopefully I won’t encounter any complications. I am presently 5′7 and weigh
260lbs.
It was suggested to me by a friend of mine (who happens to be an MD
specializing in Internal Medicine) who had an OPEN RNY in April that the
protein drinks she highly recommends are Proscore 100 chocolate and ProBlend
55 moca cappuchino. These are apparently very high in protein and very low
