Sassy Lynn… 40 ish… hmm

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Hi Sassy~
I am 41 and had my girls at 32, and 34. Although I ended up 11 pounds below
pre-pregnancy weight with both of them (and even lost another 10 after my
second) I have definitely gained since then to the tune of 40-50 lbs.! I loved
turning 40, and at the same time was realizing that losing weight was far
tougher than before (as if it had ever been easy!). Went to my GYN and was
told.. “Well, your getting at that age.” She meant peri-menopause.
Lovely…lol Had my hormone levels checked and found out I needed to get on
estrogen, that just so happens to have a side effect of.. you guessed it…
weight gain. So mood swings calmed but I am now a robust 260 lbs.
Still love being 40ish! But, yes, I see where you’re coming from… :o)

Suggested info. - Chris S.

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

First let me say… Congrats, Chris!! Fantastic! I myself would love to have a
WLS coordinator at my docs office. Well.. he does..just not as informed or
‘been there’ as you will be. You asked for possible suggestions as to what
patients might be concerned, have questions and need info. about. I have 2
suggestions myself…. here goes:
1. For females anyway (as I am one…lol) I have heard that when in the process
of the rapid weight loss phase, estrogen - since it is stored in the fat cells -
floods the system. I myself, as I’m sure at least SOME women pre WLS are, am on
estrogen supplement and am really concerned about this ‘flooding’ factor and
would like to know what to do pre- and/or post-op about this. Overdose of
estrogen is extremely dangerous. I have talked to various physicians and get a
“Hmmmm…” response, including my surgeons WLS coordinator.
2. (Also female related… sorry guys…lol) Surgery has been said to ‘kick in’
the menstrual cycle requardless of scheduling around it. It’s a bit tough to
imagine that if you were to literally have surgery the day following ‘the last

Tamar - changes

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Hi!
Thank you for your WLS story, Tamar. For those of us in line, to ‘gain our new
lives’, and for those that are perhaps having any difficulties with plateaus and
such that are post-op, NEED to hear from people like you to help strengthen us
through this really nerve racking wait, and stubborn plateaus! Congrats… :o)

A coworker is in a coma and on a respirator after wls

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Ok here is my situation. A person who works at my company had WLS 3
weeks ago. He is not doing so good. I am not sure about who his
surgeon was. He had periontonitis and is in a coma and on a
respirator. He almost died 3 times. Once during the surgery, and
twice since, but has managed to hold on.
His fever has dropped, but he is still on life support. I pray for
him everyday, and wish God would just heal him up.
He is in Tampa, and that is all I know. He is around 40 years old
and was very tall and very large (approx 350-400.)
So now how does this information relate to me? It scared the
beegeesus out of me. I am afraid that what happen to him can happen
to me. I know there is a death rate of 0.5 %, but this man I know,
so it is so much closer to home.
Please help me if you can. I really need to get your opinion and
support to help him recover. Pray for him please, and let me know

Plastic Update

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Maryse,
Wow you have done wonderful!! I am interested in getting my legs and
butt done, but now my boobs are really starting to bother me. I don’t want
to have a bunch of surgeries, only what I really need and legs and butt are
the worst. I can hide my tummy and with a good bra I even look perky.
What I would like to know is the details of this surgery and if you have
any pictures that would be great.
If anyone else had their legs or butt done, any information you could
send me would be greatly appreciated. If you have any good links that helped
you please pass them on.
Thanks,
Jeanne

b-12 shot yesterday, today extrememly tired

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Hi Everyone,
I’m 2 wks. postop and I had my 1st b-12 shot yesterday. I’m
extremely tired today. Can hardly stay awake. Gone from bed to
recliner and back. Haven’t done that once in last 2 wks. I thought b-
12 gave a person energy.
Anyone have any ideas about why I’m so tired since the shot?
Thank you,
Nancie/NY/Lap 9/17/02 lost 20 lbs.

Question: green tea

Monday, November 29th, 2004

I have a question. Y’all will probably say you silly woman, but here it is. I
am 5 months post and have no problems. Last night I drank some green tea and
today I feel sick at my stomach. I have had diarrhea, nausea and all over
icky feeling. Is it just a coincidence that i drank the tea and feel this way
today? I don’t drink green tea normally so that is why I thought it might be
the tea. I feel really drained.
Thanks!
Have a Blessed day

Starting To work again!

Monday, November 29th, 2004

I said hello to everyone yesterday, But now let me tell you a little bit about
myself , I had my Surgery on April 5th of This year. and yes it has changed my
life in every way possible with only minor complications.
I was a store manager of a retail store , one that is very popular and I was
very successful yes even at 324 pounds For one reason and one only I made it my
life. My husband had to come to my work just to see me and say hello , this job
consist of many 24 hours straight shifts. All which I have given up after my
surgery , not because I could not do the job any more , but because I started to
see there was a life out there during my recovery time, which I had Short term
disability and of course I used it as long as I could . I was called several
times for assistants . I realize that the money which was very very good was not
the answer to my life so I took my 20,000 pay cut a year and decided to become
an insurance agent , well it’s been great but I am having a real hard time
paying the bills. Even with that said I do not regret My decisions in any way. I
have lost 120 pounds in just 6 months. I could not ask for more. I am more

Question for the Group about getting fat in your 40’s

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Ya know I have seen answers to all kinds of questions so I wish to throw
another out there.
How many of you out there did not have a weight problem until the mid 40″s ???
I was VERY thin as a kid & teenager - then gained weight during both
pregnancy’s but lost it shortly there after.
Cruised thru the the 20’s and 30’s at a normal weight - when at the ripe old
age of 43 I went ass over tea kettle………………………
All the way to a bouncing 258 lbs………..
So I am wondering if I am the only one in this boat ??
Thanx
Sassy Lynn

I’m really a loser now….

Sunday, November 28th, 2004

Just wanted to share with everyone… I am *really* starting to be a LOSER… I
just weighed myself, and I am down to 247ish… down from 285 7 weeks ago, I
think that’s FABULOUS!!!!!!! My goal for myself was to be under 250 before
October 1st (have less than 100 pounds left to lose before reaching goal)… I
could hardly believe it this morning when I weighed myself and I was at 247!!!! :) Still a ways to go, but I feel GREAT!!!!!!
Just wanted to share… :) Sarah T
