Prednisone

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

YES!! Prednisone and most other steroids can and most likely will
cause you to gain weight. 2 summers ago I went through a terrible
time with allergies - not the usual sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, but
it manifested itself through my skin, resulting in severe itching. I
just about went nuts. Prednisone was one of the meds that were
prescribed because at the time, my doc and I had no idea my problems
were a result of allergies. Anyhoo, Prednisone is some strong stuff
and I put on the weight. There are many benefits to steroids, but
like with anything else, there are disadvantages as well. There’s a
book titled ‘Coping with Prednisone’ - ‘it may work miracles, but how
do you handle the side effects’? There some very interesting
information in this book that you may find helpful - or anyone else
out there that may be taking steroids as well (or faced with the
possibility of taking them). When the allergies hit me this summer,
they were less severe, and I chose to just stay with Allegra and get

Hm…too thin

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

Wow, Ray… hard to imagine! But, I am pre-op waiting on a date for sometime
this Oct. I think that sooo often we just think of ‘What if I DON’T lose
enough?’ that to consider becoming TOO thin is really astounding.
Take care,

To all of us that are scared…

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

Hi all… :o)
Yes… this risk is frightening but that is why we are here. We were led here
initially because we know in our heart of hearts it what we need, have and want,
to do for a better life. I try to do my best to just concentrate on the pros of
this procedure and time in thanking God for his hand in having made the
intelligence and technology available. Still… human is human and some days I
just get chills all over… it’s normal, sure, but there’s nothing like the
support we can give each other through this.
All of us are in my prayers. We will not only make it through this, but we will
do it in flying colors!!
My hand is always here for others to hold… e-mail me anytime. And, I need one
too!

4 days out!

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

Just got home from the hospital yesterday. I had my open rny Sept
28. I’m feeling a lot better. Right now all I’m eating is apple
sauce and sugar free jello. I’m drinking my water and taking my
vitamins.
I would love some advice about food and any thing else.
Thanks for being here.

job opportunity…I finally did it!

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

Hi gang,
I had my first support group meeting today. It was the
very first for this group. There was a good turn out.
The doc, 2 of his staff members, 6 post-ops and 5
pre-ops. It was a little disorganized, but I know that
is because it was the first one. It was fun to meet
others “in person” who are going thru or have gone
thru the same things as myself. We’re starting a buddy
system or an angel system or maybe both. I met 1
person who will be having surgery 10 days before me.
Can’t wait to get to know them more. All very nice
people. All after the same goal.
After the group left, I stayed behind to talk with the
doc and his staff RN about that WLS coordinator
position I’m trying to convince them they need. I

Hi folks, Will a few of you give me an idea how long after surgery I can expect
to lose some of this fluid .

Do you have to have vitamin injections?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2004

I am curious as to how many people have to get vitamin injections. I
asked the surgeon if that is something that I would have to do and he
said that it was a good possibility. I thought people could chew
their vitamins now. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
