I am interested in convercing with some one who has had the
lap- band procedure.How successful has it been for you? Is the port
bothersome afterwords? Have you had any other surgeries prior to the

Hello Everyone.
I hope all’s well with everyone and I am so grateful that so many
share their lives through email with losing weight, as I am nearlly 6
months post op and confused over the complications I am facing. But
everyone’s elses stories give me the courage I so badly needed, as
most of the things that was frightening me lately is common problems
with most WLS folks. I feel good that I did my op, as I have lost 20+
kilos and 3 dress sizes smaller and so much more active and was able
to have a grand 35th birthday holiday with my 3 very active sons last
week. So good folks bye for now and I hope I meet more of you’ll in
the chat room as I love talking things over and been a part of a
great group.

Hi, My name is Cathie and I currently live in Corpus Christi Texas. I
am a Military wife,and I have 3 sons 14, 12, 8. I am supposed to have
the surgery done at Wilford Hall in San Antonio. I have most of my
testing done. I thought I was finished till I got a bump in the road
of my journey with a dr call saying I needed a followup to my upper
GI. I have to get an EGD(GAG). I go to my PCP tomorrow to get that
set up so hopefully I will be on track soon. I hope to have the
surgery before I move in Jan if not I will have to change surgeons.
We are transfering to Kingsland Georgia which is north of
Jacksonville Fla. I hope if I dont get my surgery before I leave I
can find a dr that takes Tricare prime.. Well thats my story and I
am sticking to it .. Cathie

First I am going to suggest that you send your replies directly to me. I
don’t want to have too many replies to the list about protein drinks and
such…unless others want to know too. I am still lost here. I have 4
containers of the most disgusting tasting stuff. I would like to hear from
those who have found what they like or even share with me what you hate. I
just need to have something to go on. that stuff is too expensive to keep
experimenting randomly.
If you have some good recipes please share them with me. I try to eat,
but I am not eating enough and I need to get in one…maybe two drinks a day
I would also like to know if anyone has a general ballpark figure about how
much protein we should be getting a day…how much our body absorbs in a
meal. if we eat 20 grams of protein…how much of that is absorbed???All of
it ?? or part of it?
Also I remember someone told me that we should not eat more than 16 grams

Kathy, I have not had the surgery yet but I attend support meeting
every month and from what you described it sounds like you were
dehydrated. I have heard these same syptoms from other post ops and
they all said the same thing. The surgeons here preach that you have
to carry a water bottle with you and sip from it all day long. Hope

On my last blood test, it showed my potassium being low. So, my surgeon’s
office called me in a prescription for Klor-Con/EF that I have to take for a
month. No prob, its effervescent and tastes like orange soda.
Well, it is giving me diarrhea. Surgeons office said to take Acidophilus
pills because the supplement is getting rid of all the bacteria in my colon.
These pills just sit in my pouch like a rock. I can’t find any in gelatin or
capsule form. I’m trying to eat one yogurt a day to help this, but I am sure
that is not enough.
Has anyone ever had this happen? If so, how did you get the diarrhea to
stop? Also, has anyone ever found these in gelatin or capsule form?

Hi everyone, I am having the WLS with Dr. Grant, in North Carolina on 10/24/02..
I am feeling ALL the feelings that we ALL feel before surgery. Just knowing that
you will keep me in your prayers, I know will keep me calmer. I would like to
know what others do to keep those negative thoughts out of their head. I need to
say that I fear being a statistic. Thank you all for sharing your experience and
knowledge on this list. I feel very confident that I understand wls, both pros
and cons. Again, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the cortisone is injected and local then it will not cause the “increase”
in weight. The tendency to gain weight is from significant doses of oral or
systemic steroids over long periods of time.
