Slowed weight loss..frustrated

I had my surgery on 1-29-02 and am down from 270 at 5″6″ to 177
lbs. I’ve been frustrated because my weight loss has slowed to a
trickle…only 2-4 lbs a month over the last 3 months…very
frustrating. I’d like to weigh about 145 and fear that I won’t get
there. I struggle with exercise consistancy. Also I sometimes get
on sweet kicks (very scarey yet NOTHING like preop). I have been
feeling kinda bad about myself because of these imperfections, even
though I’m THRILLED with my new size 14ish body. It helps when I
hear from people with similar loss patterns who are now approaching
or have reached goal weight. IT IS VERY REASSURING TO ME THAT I’M
OKAY, THAT I, TOO, WILL GET THERE. It is frustrating when I hear
about people losing all of their weight so much faster than me. I
get so scared at times that I’ll “fail” at this too. I am
determined to continue to succeed and constantly praise myself
for “what I’m doing RIGHT”, instead of beating myself up for my poor

choices. But it is hard at times. The 6 month postop “honeymoon”
is over and I have to work harder. The first 5-6 months were no
much easier as I had little or no sugar cravings then. My cravings
are the least when I just plain stay away from sweets. Even just a
little sweets tends to set off my cravings for more & more.
Thanks for all of your support. Suzanne

    Suzanne,
Hi. I know the weight loss seems very slow when compared to how you were losing
in the beginning but when you think of it you have lost 93 pounds!!
Part of the slow down could be your body adjusting to its new weight and perhaps
part is due to increased muscle mass?
Are you eating enough? I know you mentioned sweets on occasion but what about
food? Perhaps an increase in calories is needed?
Then again, maybe you have relaxed your vigil, so easy to do, and are not eating
as well. Are you getting your protein, veggies and fruits in? I am sure that
after a while it is easy to start eating foods that are easy to fix and eat.
Eating healthy always seems to take longer and is more costly.
I know for me if I eat sweets I crave them. It has been best for me in the past
to stay away from them completely. I am only 9 weeks post op now so can’t eat
    sweets at all.
It could always be one of those awful plateaus. Are you clothes getting any

looser? Always a good indication if this is the problem.
I believe there is an OSSG group for people who are slow losers. Maybe they can
offer some suggestions or added support so check it out. :) Janet
