Biliary dyskinesia
Has anyone else developed a non-functioning gallbladder due in part
to a rapid weight loss? I am 1 year postop and was having terrible
pain. An ultrasound showed no gallstones but some “sludge”. The
doctor ordered a CCK HIDA scan, and it showed an ejection fraction of
11% (normal is 35%), which means that my gallbladder doesn’t contract
the way it should. The problem is I don’t know whether to have my
gallbladder out or not. I have heard different things on this. Since
I don’t have gallstones, maybe removing the gallbladder won’t help. I
also have been approved for a TT and the 2 surgeries can’t be done at
the same time. So I would be facing 2 more surgeries.
Any experience anyone has had with this would be appreciated!

Are you still having terrible pain? If the gallbladder is causing you
pain, then it seems that removing it would be the thing to do. I don’t
know if there’s an increased risk of gallstones or ruptured gallbladder
in your situation, but it would be worth looking into.
And having your gallbladder removed is usually done laporascopically as
a same day surgery - nothing near as severe as WLS or a TT. I’m not a
medical professional, but I have had my gallbladder out - it wasn’t bad
at all.
Good luck to you.

The pain I had is gone. It hasn’t come back in about 2 weeks or so. I
don’t think there is an increased risk of gallbladder rupture since
there are no stones, and if I take the Actigall that should help
prevent stones being formed.
Around here, a lap gallbladder surgery is an overnight hospital stay.
It’s true that it isn’t as big a surgery as WLS or the TT would be,
but it still means I will have to undergo general anesthesia 2 more
times if I have the TT (I have an awake intubation because of my
anatomy and it is NO fun!)and also have to consider the amount of
time I will be off from work for 2 more surgeries.
The plastic surgeon did say that it may be possible to remove the
gallbladder at the same time as the TT! We’ll see!!
Thanks for your input!!
