.I need support

Friday, January 28th, 2005

Chris,
Of course I felt the same way you do. It’s only natural. I reacted by
eating lots of last meals. I gained another 15 pounds in the last two months
before surgery….eating all the things that I knew I would miss terribly and
would NEVER be able to eat again. I can eat almost all those things now and
the ones I can’t eat, I don’t even miss. I eat just like any other normal
thin person these days and I can not tell you enough what a wonderful,
glorious life I have now. I would do this surgery again in a heartbeat and
would do it every year if need be. It has and continues to be a wonderful
journey. Best of luck to you and may God give you peace as your surgery day
grows nearer.

I need support

Friday, January 28th, 2005

I am now 7 days til surgery and I’m feeling as though maybe I’m not ready for
this. I have been working toward this for 2 years and want nothing more. But,
now I’m scared that I will be unhappy not being able to eat “real” food. I keep
telling myself that eventually I will be able to eat alot of the real stuff, and
that the liquids and blenderizing is only for 8 weeks. Still I’m worried. I have
a constant knot in my stomach now. I guess it’s nerves. I get hungry but nothing
tastes good…kind of gaggy actually.
Anyone else ever feel this way? I’m sure it’s just nerves and stress about
getting the HIPAA letter on time and my disability problems( and thus lack of
money!!).
I’m not changing my mind but I could sure use some support.
Love you guys,

ISO PURE (powder)?????

Thursday, January 27th, 2005

Hi Friends!
I am hoping someone that has had WLS and has used ISO PURE protein
can help me. I live in the land of OZ and after much search and given
up too, I found a health food store that can get this product for me.
But is there anyone that can help me with the imformation of how good
they feel this product is and did it help them?????
I am 6 months post op and feeling confused with all that is happening
to me, as I am tired beyond words, loss of hair, but yet so many plus
points to my own life style.
I am trying to find something that will help me with my dietary needs
for now, as I am still unable to hold anything solid down and I am
tired of chucking up so much. I have seen my DR. and waiting on the
results of my recent blood tests.
Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated. With best wishes
from

Angel report on Bonnie Proctor

Thursday, January 27th, 2005

I just got back from visiting Bonnie Proctor at Inova Fairfax Hospital
in Falls Church, Virginia, where she had an open RNY on Monday. When I
arrived, she had just returned from having an upper GI leak test, and
wasn’t feeling real good. But after a meaningful bathroom visit, she
perked up and looked much better, and we were able to have a nice
visit. She complained about marginal nursing care since transferring
from the intermediate care unit to the general surgical unit, but
otherwise said she had manageable pain and was feeling reasonably well.
Because of her sleep apnea they plan to monitor her an extra day, so
she’ll probably go home on Friday. I’m sure she’d be delighted to have
some e-mails to keep her busy when she gets home…drop her a line at

HOORAY! 1yr. progress report

Thursday, January 27th, 2005

Yesterday I saw Dr. Marema in Ft. Lauderdale for a weigh-in and review of my
1yr. lab results, which were fine. NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS! I’ve lost 891% of
my excess weight currently 155, down from 264 10/01, bmi 23. I’m 5′8,5″
tall, and 57yrs. old. I have had ms for 30 years, and am confined to either
hospital bed or (red) jazzy wheelchair when I am able to be up and about.I
now wear a size 10 blouse - a TOTALLY NEW experience, (down from 5X) MANY
THANKS to GOD, Dr. Fobi, Dr. Marema, and my handsome husband, Richard for
turning ME into SUCH A GREAT (AND THANKFUL) LOSER! I can attest to the fact
that MO is hereditary. We heve 2 daughters, 28 & 30) who have undergone wls
w/ SPECTRIM in Culver City, CA,. in the last 14 mos. One has lost 100 lbs,
the other 65. One daughter and I had lap durgery, the first one had open. We
all are doing fine!

Juicer

Thursday, January 27th, 2005

I was wondering if anybody has used a juicer post-op? My mother just
gave me one today. She thought it would be good for me to use. I’m
wondering if the concentration of the fruit juice is too high in
sugar. Does anyone have any good vegetable ideas?

Pre-op questions?

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

Hi Everyone,
I am presently pre-op RNY and just came back from my first Nutritionist visit.
I have some questions. I asked her what size my pouch would be and she said 3
ounces. Isn’t that big as far as this surgery goes? I thought that the norm
was 15-20 cc’s. On a conversion chart that I found 3 ounces =90 cc’s is that
right? I was never good at math and conversions are worse.
Also the nurse said that everyone’s bypass length is determined by the BMI of
the individual. Normally it is around 100 centimeters….would this be a
proximal. Gosh, I hope I have this right I should have taken notes. The one
time I didn’t bring my note book!! Can you suggest a medial or distal or does
the surgeon make the decision, does anyone know? Which one is actually best as
far as RNY goes? I know I am asking rather detailed medical questions, but any
input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Lisa - New Hampshire

Hard to believe!

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

Hahaha, I had my laugh for the other day. I was told by 2 people why
I can’t get a date since losing the weight…….I’m too pretty to be
approached by men, I intimidate them! A nice compliment granted. Well
I guess I should wear shirt that says “Don’t Be Afraid, C’mon Over.”

drinking enough water

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

Dear group,
I am two months out and I am having great difficulty drinking enough
water. I can only take in 3 or 4 ounces at a time and I forget to
keep sipping during the day at work. Can anyone suggest ways to
increase water intake? Thanks for your help.

odor

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Hi all,
I am 3 weeks post op and am doing fantastic. I am on a low roughage
diet until mid November. I am consuming 60 grams of protein (shakes
& food), taking the prescribed vitamins and drinking at least 24
ounces of water per day.
My only problem is my breath and strange body odor. My husband says
my breath could weld metal. I brush my teeth at least 4 or 5 times
per day but that does not seem to help. In addition, I seem to have
a very strange, almost metallic body odor. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Derinda
