my continuing saga

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Hi All, today I learned that there is a blockage in my heart for sure now all I
need to do is get an angiogram next week and decide if I want to take meds and
postpone surgery for some time down the road or have a balloon put in place and
get things back on the road sooner. Husband and I have alot to think about .

painful day

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Hi everyone. Today I had a problem. At about 8:30 this morning, I
started having stomach cramps. Not female related, they felt a bit
like gas cramps, but much more severe. They continued and came in
waves — some were very very painful, others were a mild nuisance.
The pain was above the belly button, below the sternum and deep in my
abdomen. Sometimes I also had pain in my back. This carried on for
several hours. I called my family doctor (not my surgeon because my
family Dr. is local and my surgeon is 150 miles from me) and went in
for a visit this evening. He found nothing. I have tenderness left
of center when he pressed on my abdomen but he really couldn’t find
the source of my pain. He ordered some labs for me but otherwise I
am stuck with the pain. It isn’t as intense now as it was most of
the day.
Has anyone else had something like this? I am almost three
months post-op. I have been eating a fairly stable diet with little

Dee, I read your post and i have a comment about your husband. You
said, “I know my husband loves me in his own way, and he has no
doubt put up with alot from me, (including marrying me pre-op), ”
I know that society puts a lot of negativity on the obese simply for
existing but don’t do it to yourself. If he isn’t comitted to you or
the marriage, perhaps he is comitted to the “old” you. I’m sorry for
saying the unpopular thing here, but nobody is a hero for marrying an
obese person. It sounds like you are a wonderful giving person and
it shouldn’t matter what your weight was then or is now.
Do what you need to do to get your “sparkle” back!
Mary

6 months post OP

Monday, January 24th, 2005

Well, I have to report in since I haven’t in a very long time. I am Jody
from Columbus Ohio. I had my Surgery April 24th 2002. I was at my highest
weight was 408 and that is when I had gotten started on getting the surgery.
It took me a year to get everything going and today I am so very happy to say
I am a lil more than 1/2 way to MY goalof 250 pounds to be gone forever. I
weighed myself at our local WIC office and I was down to 280 pounds!!!!!! I
NEVER thought I would actually SEE ME at anything under 300 ever again and
here I am!!! I was at a stand still for about a month and was getting
discouraged a bit but it seemed to just happen.
I do have some hair loss. My hair is so thin now I will get it cut and let it
grow out again after the thinning and falling out lessens. I have to take
meds still but hopefully soon that will lessen and I will be pill free as
well. <Grin
Good luck to all those who are just starting out. YES I would do this again
if I had to do it over. YES I am so very glad that I did this.

Foul Smelling Gas

Monday, January 24th, 2005

Hi Marlene:
I don’t usually post to the group, I tend to be a looky lu but I can sympathize
with you with the gas problem. I’m 8 months post-op and occasionally have quite
a bit of the nasty stuff.
A couple of things you might try:
1. Acidophilus Tablets from the pharmacy or a health food store. Grind one up
so you can take it with some applesauce. The acidophilus will get some good
bacteria going in your digestive tract and might help eliminate some of the gas
and odor problem.
2. Activated Charcoal Capsules can be purchased at any pharmacy. I hear this
works very well in eliminating odor from the lower regions.
You still very new and need to heal a bit more and maybe wait until you’re back
on regular foods before trying one or both of these. Also, you might check them
out with your doctor before you use either one of them just to be on the safe
side.

dumping vs vomiting

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

HMMMMM… Well, let’s see.. For me vomitting only happens when I overeat.
I get a weird, painful type feeling in my pouch that let’s me know it is
way too stuffed, I usually get chills because of the pain (?) and then I
vomit.
Dumping: If I just have a moderate amount of sugar (15 grams) I just get
REALLY TIRED.. That lasts for about 20-45 minutes. If I have any more
sugar than that (which only ever happened ONE time!! LOL), I felt like I
had the flu. I did vomit and I had major chills, was tired, nauseated,
etc.. I just felt like I had the flu. It lasted for about 45 minutes. I
haven’t repeated it and hope to NEVER do it again!!!!

Tomorrow…

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

Hello One and All! :o)
Tomorrow it’s my turn. 9:00 am. Whew…lol
I gulped down the pre-op Mag. Citrate first thing this morning, and
let’s just say… I’ve been BUSY. ;o) LOL
I am not able to read all of the last 3 digests at this time {having
been busy with pre-op tests, last pre-op consults, daughter’s high
honor roll ceremony {^5!)… etc.}, so I’ve put them all in ‘archive’
in my account and will pick back up where I left off when I am able.
I will be in for 4 days, mandatory.
And, oh yeah… Yikes!!! lol
(((hugs)))
Rose :o)
PS. Another member here… Bev… who hasn’t had the chance to post
much but is a friend of mine, had her surgery this morning. I talked
with her mother not 10 mins. after surgery was done and although she

Has anyone had the biliopancreatic diversion instead of the RNY?
I would really like to talk to folks who have.
